LOVE THIS HOTEL! Very new, clean, and well appointed. I HIGHLY recommend suite 12--great views, wonderful kitchenette, plus helpful instructions on use of TV and Wifi access. Wonderful, helpful staff! Owner Simon should be proud of what he's created and who he hired to run it--BRAVO to you all. HIGHLY recommend it--quiet neighborhood, easy access to all things Oxford. INCREDIBLE PLACE--very high marks!! .
all reviews » Lovely room, very comfortable bed and great ensuite facilities. Nice kitchenette in the room also. Breakfast basket of muffins, cereal, breakfast bars, tea/coffee etc topped up daily. Very close to city centre (10-15 minute walk) and train station (15-20 minute walk). Friendly staff. Room had a feeling of privacy. Great location for this small hotel- quiet neighborhood, yet walking distance to river, Christ Church meadow/college, and city center. Rooms were modern & nicely appointed. This is more of a modern guest house than a hotel, but still a very nice stay. Very convenient after-hours check-in using a lock box. Kind of wish I had had a bathtub but I appreciated the very large shower and heated bathroom floors! The room had everything you could need in a small but organized manner. The members of staff were very helpful and friendly. This, I believe, is the plus of the hotel. Additionally, the dimensions of the room were ample and the room itself was very clean (as one would expect). Loved the furnishings, the heated bathrooms floors, the decor, and the autonomy of having my own entrance from the street. I love the location of this hotel and have stayed here multiple times. Although the reviews (which are quite bad) on here are mostly true, things like having an unmanned reception isn't a problem, there's a phone to someone who gives a code for the room in which there are keys. There is a kitchenette so you can take your own breakfast rather than pay them for a muffin, and tea/coffee is provided-just bring milk! I was in the main building upstairs which I think is bett. Nothing. The only thing I suggested to staff when I left was that they put up notices when they are out of the reception area, like in the Caffe Ethos or in other parts of the property. There were several times I called down to reception or went down to seek help and no one was there; I had no idea how to find anyone, so I suggested they leave a note for guests. Aaron was very receptive to this suggestion--thanks!. Room was a little travel worn without needed up-keep (stains on carpet, missing shower glass to keep water off the floor, etc.). The black-out curtains didn't really do the job. The room smelled very musty upon entry but cleared up after using the air conditioner for a bit. The hotel does not have any services to speak of; and the basket of goodies that was there on arrival, disappeared the following day without further ado!!. Hard to reach staff at "off-peak" hours, refrigerator didn't work, no hotel documentation in room so didn't know how to provide my room telephone number to others. Could not find anything sufficient for critics... Would have been nice to know about the neccesities in the neighborhood...ie....we had been on vacation for three weeks and needed a laundry but on the last day discovered if you turned right at the corner instead of left (to go into Oxford) there was a laundry and a few nice places to eat...they nned to provide some general info about the neighborhood. Nothing comes to mind. The main reception wasn't open until 8-8.30 am which was a bit late for me - and there was no internet connection in the room. No 'on-site' parking. Albeit a short walk around the corner. Free wifi never did work. Parking. nothing. No soap provided.No plug in bathroom sink. No-one at reception when we arrived. We waited quite a long time, then no apology. Nothing. Ants in bathroom and bathroom a bit smelly. Wifi signal was very weak. Price. Room 11 described on booking confirmation as 'luxury' was poor value for money. £330 for two nights and the following issues -bathroom - no shower door so bathroom floor flooded, extractor fan did not work, patch of plaster exposed on wall and some deep scratch marks, shower controls had been damaged and not replaced. In bedroom, defuser to one of the lights was missing, standard lamp shade was stained, tap to sink was loose, scuff marks on wall. Inadequate sound insulation between rooms with communicating doors like 7&8. Some maintenance problems with plumbing!. I think it was a bit too expensive and there was no fridge in the room. Having said that, Oxford is an expensive place, but I thought 150 pounds a night was too much. The superior luxury bed, or whatever its called, was two singles zipped together. This made it a little less comfortable to lie in the middle of. Free milk was off, a cascade of lumps, although well within date. Not being able to get reception help at night. Rooms opening direct from bedroom to street pavement. No parking provision. Parking isn't close Male member of staff very curt No shower screen. No staff in the hotel to help you. Every contact is by phone. Even the simplest of questions about your booking they cannot answer, but 'the manager has to call you back'. Very inconvenient. Breakfast is very simple 'do-it-yourself'. There is not a good table in the room to eat breakfast. a bit of a musty smell in basement room we had. Basin in bathroom was blocked. Couldn't use it to wash or clean teeth. Safe didn't work, couldn't lock away my valuables when we went out for dinner. No-one on the premises either when we arrived or when we left We complained, did get a call from someone, but no message left. Complained again this morning, but no-one phoned us back. Will never use this hotel again. Don't even know if we've paid, but if we haven't then I would like a discount!. no shower curtain, the bathroom was completely wet after using the shower bad lightening in bathroom water tap in kitchen was messy price was way too expensive, we expected a better room for this price ceiling lights in bedroom were broken. Staff unhelpful and when I complained just spent the time texting on the phone (and that was the manager) Lack of facilities not really a hotel at all. Stains on carpet, stains on duvet, felt ripped off with the breakfast! No milk!! The king size bed was made of two single bed mattresses which we were not expecting and was unsuitable for a young couple! I feel quite ripped off by the Ethos hotel and would think twice before booking it again. Everything. No one on reception ever, peeling wall paper, room well below description on site in terms of quality, window opened onto public street. Toilet bowl stained!.
