all reviews » The interior of the hotel far exceeded my expectations form looking at the standard Victorian exterior. My room was clean but very cosey and the bathroom was top notch. I also liked the hotel bar, a good pace to have a last drink before going to bed.Helpfull staff, very comfortable hotel,easy access to Oxford and good parking. Free car parking and the hotel made no objection to us leaving the car parked on the last day whilst we went into town even after we had checked out - although this may not be the case if they had been fully booked.Staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel did not charge the card till the following morning which is unusal nowadays as for one night stays hotels seem to demand payment up front. they also allowed us to store our bags for the following day with no charge which is also increasingly unusual. close to the downtown and the university, not loud and pretty green place.proximity to my destination and availability of car parking. Wifi broadband not available when I needed it. i thought the cooked breakfast was poor quality. The price of the continental breakfast. we could hear every footstep of the people in the room above us but other than that a very pleasant stay. Service at breakfast was a bit hit and miss. The waitress had little command of english and as a consequence omitted items from a relatively simple order. The coffee was over strong and stewed and again the waiter argued over a replacement. Minor point but irritating. We did comment adversly on the hotel feedback form. Room a bit small. Not a major dislike, but the fittings and carpets are ageing. taxi service used by the hotel let us down. It has a nice location if you are looking to get out of the busy parts of the city. However, it was a further walk than I anticipated to the nearest grocery store or other dining options. Breakfast not included. Window onto courtyard could see clearly into rooms opposite and vice versa. Nets for privacy in daylight. Very noisy in morning could clearly hear other guests above us. Room rate very good but English breakfast at £12.50 per head was expensive. We didn't dine there so no idea about food but menu looked expensive - not competitive with host of excellent restaurants available in town centre. the energy saving spot lights in the bathroom take about five minutes to warm up to full power ( It seemed like five minutes I am sure it was not) but that actually caused us more amusement than annoyance. no elevator. The shower taps did not mix well meaning I had a very hot shower or a cold one. I struggled to find any working light when I enetered my room, and had to fumble about in the dark to a bedside lamp to get any light. The bathroom floor is cracked and needs repairing. There was no room service menu. The restaurant closed at 2145 yet I was told on the phone they were serving until 2200. I had to chase to get some one to staff the bar when I wanted a drink. no lift.The hotel was a bit chintzy and old-fashioned. The full English Breakfast could have been fuller!!. The hotel staff(resturant)were very good the receptionist on the Saturday of our stay would not pick up the internal phone.I used my mobile to telephone yuor external number. I found this very poor and very unsafe. when I questoned the receptionist about this she did not seem to care.Noisy road as my room was at front of hotel. My pillow. The shower regulator did not work.The staircase looks in need of freshening up. no lift, tv should offer sky programs.
