Bedrooms recently refurbished to a great standard, especially loved the light up mirror :) The breakfast was fantastic just what you need after a great night out in Oban. The hotel is very central for everything in Oban from the great chippie to the even greater bars. Would recommend if you are staying in Oban for an event in the Gathering Halls as you are only a stone throw away. Dont forget to nip in to the Tartan Tavern facing the Hotel entrance. This Hotel proves you should never judge .
all reviews » We went to the Rowantree for our 3rd anniversary for an overnight stay away. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food in the steakhouse (onsite) was delicious! I highly recommend the fillet steak, cooked to perfection and super tasty! They are also bike friendly, with a safe car park located at the back of the hotel (so off from the main street). It is also ideally located for walking round Oban, less than 5mins to the bay. Altogether we had a lovely time away!. nice layout to room though I would make the improvements I mention opposite.Food is unpretentious and well cooked. Staff are polite and attentive. Overall a good experience. I am making these comments as a fellow professional of 40 years in the hospitality industry. I look forward to staying with you again and to see how you improve. A pleasant town hotel - with hindsight we should have chosen another hotel that was not quite so central as it was noisy, particularly on Saturday night! It was however comfortable and everything in Oban was within easy reach. The hotel was very clean and facilities in room were very good. Staff were excellent, friendly and attentive. We had dinner in "steak house" and it was very good , fast service and reasonable prices. Overall a good experience. My partner and I really enjoyed our stay. My car wouldn't start on the sun morning and the staff was very helpful that the manager I think it was gave me a jump start the staff and hotel are 5 star in our book. Room exceptionally clean. Staff friendly. Location excellent. Breakfast choice good. Quiet room even although facing main road. Overall would stay if passing through again but not for more than one night. Newly refurbished interior is a surprise after the slightly dismaying look of the exterior. Very nice staff, good breakfast, and excellent location for getting the ferries to the islands. Very good place to stay it was our first time at this hotel. Plan to use it again. One member of staff Alan was very friendly. My wife and I had an enjoyable over night stay . My partner and I were very impressed with the attention we received from the staff especially when one of us took ill and we had to cut short our stay. All the staff we very helpful and friendly. Although some worked long hours they still had a smile on their faces, and a sense of humour. The room was very well maintained and the staff were excellent. A friendly hotel. There can be a bit of noise during the night but this is due to the fact that you are on the main road into Oban and can not be helped. It would not put me off staying here. Nothing. Could do with a telephone so that one can contact reception instead of having to go all the way down stairs. water pressure very low and drains drain very slowly. No room service so if one wants a drink one has to trail all the down to the bar. You should put the appropriate size of wardrobe in a double bedroom. get the staff to clean in the hidden corners and underneath the sliding panel in desk. you need to pay attention to detail. The hot water was barely tepid in the evening but scolding hot in the mornings. Some warm water in the evenings would have been nice!. no complaints really. Wooden floor underfoot cold. Heating in room not on when arrived although didn't take long to heat up. Breakfast could have been a tad hotter - but that could be down to personal choice. Unpreposseing exterior, situated on the main road into Oban, made for early awakening to the sounds of trucks and other activities serving the business district. Wifi service in rooms was poor, despite booster systems in each room, necessitating using the stairwell or lobby area. No faults whatsover. Only one small criticism, laminate flooring in the rooms, made us aware of the people in the room above, although it did not disturb our sleep. t were in a room above the bar ! not good at the weekend as we were on a midweek break it wasnt a problem!the staff said at weekends we would be offered a room at the back of the hotel cant get any better than that. Nothing. The wifi system which did not work and despite attention from a member of staff we were left with doubt about our own laptop but this was proven to be ok when we arrived back home so there is a fault with your system on the first floor. Can't think of anything on the downside. Hard to find anything to not like. The road was noisy, but that was because it was located on the main strip downtown near the water. Have to tolerate that for the location. The outside of the hotel could do with modernising, we feared the worst in arrival. Absolutely nothing!. shower in bathroom had no water pressure. Having to carry our cases up the stairs!. The stairwell to and from the rooms reeked of tobacco smoke. Nothing. A lift would be a bonus for disabled guests. Nothing. Walls are pretty thin, can here a lot of noise. our room was on the 2nd floor but we asked to change as there was no lift & I have difficulty with stairs, this was done at time of booking in and reception were very helpful.the only dislike was we were above the kitchen & the room smelt of chips frying& bacon in the morning it seemed to be coming from the vent in the bathroom, also the staff in the kitchen could be heard talking loudly. Bathroom was cold. Noise from pub across the road when you were trying to sleep at night. room at bit too warm and with open windows onto to George Street very noisy. No complaints at all!!. nothing. Hnadwash in shower was empty, bed was very hard. nothing zip, nada. Nothing. Walls were thin so you could hear the next rooms movements. Didn't bother us however. Quality of the breakfast could have been better. noise from the traffic at night and smells from the kitchen. Steakhouse restaurant. meal was poor value for money.
