This is the second time in a month that myself and girlfriend have spent the weekend at the Alona. As usual on arrival we are greated with cheeery and very smart recepionist and a glass of wine of course. The checkin was over in minute and our room again was immaculate. We had dinner both nights in the restaraunt and the food was lovely and service was first class. The breakfast in the morning is freshly cooked and delicious as well. We will be be going back soon as we simply adore staying ther.
all reviews » After i had booked our room,i received a phone call from Gary the receptionist,who enquierd if we were part of the Wedding party that they were haveing,when we said we were not,we were givein an upgrade & room on the front of the hotel,so as not to be inconvenienced by the party,which my wife & i thot was a fine example of a hotel looking after all of their guests,& a welcome drink was a nice touch,breakfast was exllent & the evening meal was quite superb. I love the warm welcoming atmosphere at the Alona hotel. It is so relaxing in the lounge area to sit and read a book with a hit chocolate. The food is great, the staff are fantastic and the rooms are modern and comfortable. We love the alona so much so, we have booked up again for the end of the month!!!. Lovely hotel. Staff a credit to the hotel. Fantastic experience from checking in to checking out. Rooms lovely and spotless. Breakfast fantastic. Will most definitely return to the hotel and would have no hesitation in recommending to anyone. Had a lovely stay. Booked as going to a party in uddingstone.check in great all staff friendly and helpfull. Decided to eat in restuartant and again food was amazing.rooms good siza and good comfy beds. We combined a business stop over with some follow up mountain biking and staff couldn't have been more accommodating in helping us to keep bikes secure overnight. We got a very warm welcome at reception plus a welcome drink very impressed do travel quite a lot and this definately was 5 star treatment. The room was very spacious All we could ask for . Staff friendly and professional. Rooms immaculate and great big towels. Food was lovely and the wine was a great choice for the price. Would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone. good position close to the motorway and obviously good if you want to visit the theme park next door. evening meal good ,breakfast good.room nice decent bathroom comfortable. Hotel is one of the best i've stayed in , in all an excellent experience with top class staff, nothing was too much trouble. Will be staying there again . The friendly and very welcoming atmosphere. Unless your in a front facing room there isn't one. noise at night from the street racers in the theme park car park.some of the staff a little surely.room too hot needs fans and a drinks fridge! booked a double given a twin had to change that. Breakfast was a bit disorganised. Lounge bar was too small for number of guests: it was full to the brim on several occasions. Wedding reception in outdoor marquee just outside our window-noisy until midnight.we had earplugs so it didn't bother us too much. Self service breakfast and some things not kept topped up at breakfast. No yoghurt with breakfast. For me personally not enough vegetarian options on the menu. A couple of issues with poorly cleaned towels. to say I didnt like my evening meal would be a bit unfair. I didn't think the food was up to the standard of the hotel. I did have sunday lunch and it was 8 o'clock so that may have explained it. Nothing to say!. No bath in room. Loud music from the function area. Little bit of wedding noise but we were prepared for this by the staff who had tried to accommodate us suitably and welcome was so good that we were prepared to put up with that. The pillows in the room were not comfortable at all for us - tiny thing but did interrupt our sleep x. The Bathroom lighting was very dim. My wife had extreme difficulty trying to apply her makeup. can become uncomfortably hot in their conservatory restaurant but staff are aware of this, and hope it will be corrected soon. rooms starting to look A little tired creaking floorboards, fan not working in the bathroom balcony doors loose. the orange night light in the room. Bar prices. the fans don't seem to work in the bathroom's on both occasions we have stayed there. The M&D theme-park next door with car-park that means that all visitors pass the Alona door is a weak point. The advertising that shows a romantic lake-side location is misleading for this reason. There was not a thing not to like about the Alona. Perhaps a bit noisy at the back of the hotel when a function was on. The mayflies but cannot be helped. Nothing. room onto large car park - had screeching cars into the small hours in the morning - causing a very poor sleep and concentration as this was a working business trip. ( not the first time) would like a room on other side of hotem next time I stay. It was noisy at night with a private party disco music until 1am. But we have visited regularly to the Alona and not experienced this before. Lip marks on glasses in bathroom, however I am extremely picky and this was the only fault I could find. Everything else was outstanding. Nothing. There was a large night light by the door which could only be switched off by switching off all the room power, drainage from the wet room shower was slow so water ran out into toilet area.
