I like the artsy, contemporary feel of the whole hotel - it feels like an understated and less visually disoriented W Hotel full of wonder, fun and craftiness. The bathroom was clean - typical Victorian style but with a modern touch. Staff, warm and cheerful. The gym and library were great - adds up a lot of points of my fondness towards this hotel. Such an experience was like the first meeting and leaving of distant relatives. My husband and I have traveled extensively and we visit London every 2 years. However, it was our first stay at the Ampersand. We found the hotel's food such a remarkable culinary experience; that . The staff were excellent, the airline lost my suitcase, the staff organised to courier it on to me after I had checked out, they followed it up with a phone call letting me know all the details. The hotel is quiet and in a convenient location right near the tube and some good restaurants and cafe's. I thought the complimentary soft drinks in the minibar a great idea and well utilised after a warm day out in London. We loved the hotel from the unique deco to the staff to the location. I called the hotel the night before to enquiry if we could drop our luggage off before the checking time so that we could explore London. On arrival a note had been made of our conversation the night before and our room was all ready for us to check in 3 hours early! Fantastic would recommend a stay!. I loved the transformation from what it used to be. Bright, chic, sparkling, welcoming building and a staff with real pride in their place of work and no pomposity or coldness. My room was delightful and a lot of thought had obviously gone in to catering for guests' needs. Loved the bedside fridge with its complimentary soft drinks. The location, staff, rooms and decor were all great but it was the staff that made it such a pleasure. Thomas and Sam looked after me particularly well but all staff were friendly and very helpful. I loved that they asked questions about my day and offered all kinds of assistance and were available at all times. From entering the hotel to booking out, all the staff were friendly and could not do enough for us. The service was excellent, from the nightly turn down service to the chocolates left on a daily basis. Excellent service all round and we would definitely stay here again. Totally recommended. The size of the double room (and its closet) was really too small in any sense - may need a re-design to make it more visually comfortable and a better use of the limited space. I can think of nothing to complain about. The only thing I found annoying is the bathroom door is frosted glass so if you use the bathroom during the night the light disturbs your partner in bed. nothing. My room was rather 'bijou' so it was difficult to find a suitable space for the drinks tray. The wardrobe space was quirky but definitely a challenge to hang anything longer than the umbrella which was already there!. Nothing to dislike. Restaurant toilets did not have hand towels or dryers. Being close to the tube has a drawback and it is the noise, sometimes you can feel the train. If you are out most of the time, this is a non-issue. The only problem we had is our thermostat started at 30° c, and we weren't able to move it below 27 for the first day. There were curtainless windows in our bathroom and though the glass was fogged, it was still uncomfortable for us. We asked if they could be blocked with a screen or something but the hotel said they couldn't. Street is quite noisy and the initial room which I asked for was near the back of the hotel...so away from the street noise, but...ended up near a ventilator which itself was super noisy, I complained and they immediately moved me and gave me an upgrade. Negative turned positive. Wish the rooms were a bit larger. No convenient spot for hairdrying close to mirror. Rooms very small. Not much storage for luggage. Use of shower necessitated washing hair, not much space in bathroom for toiletries. The weather was a bit cold, but it has not to do with this enquire. The room and en-suite were disappointingly small We could barely squeeze between the foot of the bed and the desk On this basis alone I would be unlikely to elect to stay again unless the room was more spacious Keep an on glass eg in en-suite where it was clean generally the Glass lampshades either side of mirror were very dirty also Carpet at door entrance was frayed and scruffy just very Slight increase in housekeeping attention to detail needed. The room we booked was the best value available but was very compact. However, still felt luxurious and is in a lovely area. rooms too small. quite expensive. Is pricey but suppose you get what you pay for. In hotels that we stay in of that price/rating usually a pool facility is the norm but this is small problem. Absolutely no storage for clothes. Wardrobe was just not suitable to be able to hang clothes in. View from window was a brick wall!!. Got back to our room at 16.20pm and it had not been cleaned. Noise from the South Kensington tube as we were on the ground floor - vibration & subway train noise. Not sufficient garment space, lack of hooks to hang overcoats, bathtub too high for older people, need a grab bar in bathtub/shower. Hotel is new (first year) and needs breaking in. Need light for writing desk. - Room Slightly Dark - Needed 1 full length mirror that wasn't in the wardrobe. Nothing. room looked over main road which was noisy 24/7. Deluxe room was small for a 5* hotel. Bathroom compact, would expect separate shower and 2 basins in a deluxe rm. Could use a mirror above desk in room for hair drying etc. Inconsistent air con blowing hot/cold over the bed. Nothing to comment about !. Tea room a bit overpriced and service was slow. Beds were small and bathroom was almost larger than the bedroom! Small window so room was quite dark. The room layout was very awkward. There was a desk at the foot of the bed with a chair that could not be moved under the desk. It was possible to squeeze through to get to the far side of the bed but there was no way to get a suitcase to that side without lifting it high. I think if the desk did not have a bar along the bottom that prevented the chair from being pushed further under, it would have been fine. Otherwise, the room was great. No complaints whatsoever. Nothing. That I only stayed one night. The room was too hot and difficult to regulate the temperature. Rooms quite small Some of the detailed workmanship was not up to standard, eg lift trims, skirting boards etc. Nothing. Room size small but nonetheless very comfortable and nice bathroom. Nothing. Nothing. Rooms are very small, poor lighting. Not a thing!. Nothing. It was good and I will stay there again.
