Originally an 18th-century coaching inn, it now features rooms with tea and coffee-making facilities, a TV and trouser press. Some also have a stand-alone bath and views over the garden. The traditional Swan Lounge and Bar offers a selection of beverages and afternoon teas, while the Wedgewood and Library restaurants serve fresh, locally sourced dishes. The Old Swan was home to Agatha Christie during her disappearance in 1926, and has since been used as a film set for the 1979 film, Agatha. Just a short walk from Harrogate town centre, the building is 5 minutes’ walk from the famous Betty’s Tearoom and 15 minutes from Harrogate Railway Station.

On arrival we were offered a free upgrade to a suite which was beautiful. It's close enough to the centre and the surroundings of the hotel are lovely. I would definitely stay there again. Lovely room which had a nice view over the gardens and staff were very friendly and courteous.upgraded accomadation at no extra cost, very clean room, no complaints, ideal location. Rooms were excellent, and staff were very attentive.

This is an old style hotel, the main lounge and public areas were typical of what one would expect from such an old style hotel. The dining room was elegant and service was excellent. Some of the corridors need some redecorating but the rooms were comfortable. The Swan is a grand old building which has had a lot spent on it recently. You have to appreciate its history to enjoy it fully, there are high ceilings in most rooms but the bathrooms are superb.Central location with ample parking. Good size room which was clean and comfortable. Very quiet at night even though a large function was taking place on the night of our stay. very clean and excellent hotel staff made it a very enjoyable weekend. position and lack of fuss. staff, bathrooms. upgrading process having an impact - log fires very welcoming and staff helpful-- excellent location. We always like the Old Swan, however they were a bit shortstaffed this time. comfort and a particularly good buffet breakfast. The Executive room we stayed in was excellent. Traditional building freshly refurbished, spacious feeling and central but quiet location. Polite and helpful staff. The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. As with all hotels these days food and drink prices are extremely high and do not offer any value for money. Easy soloution, eat out, plenty of excellent diners etc in Harrogate all withinj easy walking of the Old Swan. make shift dining room left me looking at the wall and staff dishing up meals not a very pleasant atmosphere you could do a lot better. no facilities eg pool gym etc...most surprising that a hotel of such stature has nothing in this respect. i have stayed in hotel quite a few times but this time i found it very uncomftalbe , the central heating was on to high , i turned it down but still room was to hot i did not manage to sleep allnight which made me uncomftable . price of a cup of tea -3 95 !!!. Breakfast has gone downhill a bit. the only one thing we didnt like was when we first booked in and given our room key we went up to our room to find we had been given a key to a room which was already been used, which had other peoples luggage on the bed, this could have been embarassing.some areas of the hotel still in need of refurbishment. The dining room was very chaotic at breakfast. It is self service buffet style which proved difficult as a disabled person. Although we had checked out that there was access to upper floors by lift, the room we were given was a very long walk from the lift and there were three steps. The hotel staff did however find us another more accessible room.Were understaffed in dining room. small room - pricey. Despite executive room,the view wasn't up to match ( fire escape stairs). disappointed in the executive room, although spacious it overlooked metal chimney and vents and rooftops. expected view of the gardens. the breakfast was a buffet and not one of the best.As I am a bit unstable on my feet I found the the beedrooms a bit on the small side. Breakfast on Sunday was chaotic. We were told to sit anywhere, unfortunately tables had not been cleared, and it was difficult to find anywhere laid for breakfast. We had to ask for napkins, cutlery and tea, no one approached and asked if they could assist. Whilst I appreciate it was busy ther should have been sufficient staff to ensure all guests were cared for. it was not a good experience. executive room spacious but view only of rooftops and the heating was overpowering and could not be adjusted. On arrival we were informed that Booking.com had cancelled our reservation that morning, luckily the hotel still had the room available.The dining room at breakfast was disorganised, poorly staffed, food on the buffet table ran out as did the plates to put food on. Other guests expressed the same view. Breaffast--Room decor shabby. The service in the Dining room was not up to standard (30 min wait for tea and coffee following meal and then only served after mentioning the matter to a waiter ). The Diner menu was disappointing with Fish of the Day being salmon on 3 consecutive days! The toiletries in the room were basic and less tan I would expect ffrom a 4 star Hotel. Smell of damp in a corridor/Price of drinks in the bar/ Electric sockets from a cable reel in an executive suite of a 4 star hotel/Could provide more information about Agatha Christie /This is a big heap of bricks requiring more investment in the bed rooms. uncomfortable small bed and room was very hot and couldnt open windows. understaffed -- horrible carpet in room. The hotel is in serious need of a refurbishment to modernise both its services and its decor. The room I was in was not air conditioned and was swelteringly hot for my entire stay. I was provided with a noisy fan unit but this did little to help. Further to this, the breakfast on the last day (the only day I ordered it) was very low quality. For the price I paid I expected much more from my stay. Restaurant staff both at dinner and breakfast could have been more helpfull. Quality, presentation and choice of food was very poor.staff , lack of dinner choice, parking. I was disappointed. I thought that I had paid extra for a betterstandard room, with a view. Our room seemed half furnished, and had aview of the dustbins and the deliveries for the kitchen.I Know that thehotel was extremely busy, with the Friday wedding. I have stayed in manyof the worlds top hotels during my career, but I had hoped for somethingspecial for my wife, for our anniversary.This hotel is not 4 star. Should only be 3 star at best, probably 2 star. No evening meal available on arrival after a journey of 250 miles. We arrived at 3.30pm. When we asked if we needed to book for dinner we were told we would have to eat out as there were no staff. Room was clean but dowdy unimaginative colour scheme. We paid extra for breakfast but it was a cheap buffet. No service. The room was very disappointing. It was small and uncomfortable. We asked to move to a room with a better view, but was still not really happy with the size of the room considering the price. Also, service at breakfast was abysmal. Tables were left uncleared, coffee was not delivered until we had finished breakfast and the stocks of the buffett breakfast were not replenished in a timely fashio. Staff were untrained and unreliable, Food was shocking !!!! Our breakfasts were wrong both mornings and cold !!! We returned a meal in the evening due to being under cooked and was still charged for it on the bill the morning of check out , along with another meal that we hadn't even had in the restaurant !.
