Liked this hotel,quick check in.A bit more basic than most hotels we use but had everything we needed.Room was quite small,but was very clean and was adequate for 1 night.The meal we had was very nice and not too expensive.Although the hotel was full,the staff coped very well.We would stop here again next time we go to france and would recommend to friends. - Beverly

I read previous comments and was a little concerned, but went ahead anyway. The service, from the moment of booking, was faultless and friendly, including giving us advice on parking in the neighbourhood. Cheerful barman made check-in simple. Manager indicated room and also where breakfast would be served (we were warned from the outset that it was at the top and there was no lift, but kept us fit). Room was small but impeccably clean, nicely decorated with great power shower. Incredibly quiet - Jaki

We just had positive experiences during our stay. The hotel is perfectly situated. It is old but everything is functioning very well. We even had an upgrade offered. So we give this hotel an excellent rating. - Rita

we have just had the best 4 days break at this hotel, we went with national holidays and would recomend the break to people, the staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful, the hotel is alittle dated and in need of alittle tlc but was clean and comfortable, the food and entertainment was very good and basically was very good value for money, 3 of our party were teenagers and they were catered for in the enterainment room. they had a really good time and made lots of friends. - Eric

My friend and I stayed in The Ship at the weekend. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. The pub is on a busy road through Sandgate but when you go around the corner to the cottage there's no through traffic and wonderful views of the sea. So peaceful. We had the Seaview suite which is lovely. Very comfortable with great views. Sitting on the deck with a glass of wine, looking at the sea is perfect. The pub is the way pubs used to be. It has stacks of character. The owners and their daughter are lo - Wendy

James and Eddie, the new owners of The Lighthouse made our son's Christening day and the build up to it such a wonderful time. We had a FABULOUS meal the night before the Christening with lots of family who also stayed at the lighthouse. James is an amazing chef with such passion. He discussed a menu with me and everybody thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The staff were also very attentive and very efficient. (We have some real foodies within the family and all found no fault!) We have just returned from a few days at the Kentemere Guest House. I was travelling with my friend and two small children. Upon arrival, the owners were very accomodating, ensuring that we brought the children into the house first before sorting any other aspect of our stay out. They then kindly advised us where the car could be parked before helping us with our luggage. The Guest House was so clean, fresh and very tidy, we could not believe what good value for money this little goldmine was. I - Lesley

The hotel is located on the main front of Folkestone and my room had a good view of the sea and France in the distance. A lovely old building, very attractive, which has been carved up into a very pleasant hotel. Room was a good size with dressing table, coffee table and a couple of chairs. Iron within the room - always a bonus. Bed was a bit soft for my liking but it didn't stop me sleeping. Bathroom clean and adequate (even though the caramel suite was slightly dated!). The Carlton Hotel in Folkestone fulfilled all the needs of our Group of 29 retired Ladies.The position is wonderful with lovely views. Our rooms were comfortable and the Staff so friendlyand helpful. The food was really superb plenty of choice and well cooked. The restaurant Staff deserve a special mention for service and good humour. We were vey pleased with the Evening entertainment with something for everyone. No one complained about anything because ther wasn't anything to complain about - Paul

Ideal stop over after long journey from Scotland on way to Chunnel. Good nights sleep in quiet, comfy room and great breakfast mean your ready for a long days trip through France. A friendly welcome awaits on your arrival, just what you want after an 8+ hours journey! The proprietors make you fell like a person not a room number. Rest assured( pun intended) I'll be back! - Claire
