Reviews - The Ship Inn

My friend and I stayed in The Ship at the weekend. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. The pub is on a busy road through Sandgate but when you go around the corner to the cottage there's no through traffic and wonderful views of the sea. So peaceful. We had the Seaview suite which is lovely. Very comfortable with great views. Sitting on the deck with a glass of wine, looking at the sea is perfect. The pub is the way pubs used to be. It has stacks of character. The owners and their daughter are lo - Wendy

We (couple) stayed there for 3 nights in July 2008. The BnB section is at the back end of a really nice older pub which had some really nice, authentic ales on tap. The rooms for the BnB overlooked the ocean and were right on the beach. The room we stayed in was very nice, and had a quality bed, big screen tv and nice furnishings. The owners and the rest of the staff were also really nice and went out of their way (especially Wendy) to make our stay enjoyable. Highly recommended if you are - David

Hotel information details

The Ship Inn is in the centre of the village of Sandgate, approximately 1.6 km (one mile) west of Folkestone on the A259. The village has a strong community feel, which you will experience as soon as you walk in. Styled as a nice pub, for nice people, it also has an extensive wine list which would appeal to even the greatest wine buff.

Parade Cottage, the adjacent Victorian building where the accommodation is housed, has been totally gutted and restored to a very high standard. All rooms have been decorated and furnished to offer luxurious accommodation with en suite facilities.

Breakfast is served in the courtyard or on the terrace, offering incredible views of the sea and, on a clear day, France.

The Ship Inn strives to offer you an experience, with a personal touch.

Information about the area

The Ship Inn is in the centre of the village of Sandgate. The village has a strong community spirit of which The Ship is very much a part.

There are many restaurants and bars to choose from. The village has a totally non-commercial seafront, complete with a Tudor Castle.

A recent arrival is Dave the dolphin, who since April 2006 has taken up residence and features regularly on TV programmes.

Sandgate really is a great place to stay and former residents include Sir John Moore (The founder of the Light Infantry and creator of the 95th rifles), H.G. Wells and William Wilberforce.

The village is 1.6 km (one mile) from Folkestone Harbour and 3.2 km (2 miles) from the ancient town of Hythe. Canterbury is 20 minutes away by car. The Channel Tunnel terminal is 5 minutes away and the port of Dover 14 minutes.

The countryside is extremely beautiful and consists rolling downland just waiting to be explored.
