Spacious and comfortable- I think staff struggle when it is busy to be available but it does have a rather welcoming informality about the place. Don't worry about no breakfast- lots of cafe's nearby- I HIGHLY recommend "the Square" cafe round the corner- superb at very reasonable prices and lovely staff! Anthony stayed june 13 -

I love their historic building and comfortable-like-home facilities. Breakfast is home-made and very delicious. Enjoyed Alba House from the start with a lovely and informative introduction from Bolbo (am sure I've misspelled his name). Very clean and large for an adult family of three and the location made it easy to get around by walking or public transportation. We ran into places which placed restrictions on when you could arrive for breakfast but the Alba House didn't impose any of those which helped us get an early start.

The guest house is run by a very warm and inviting family. The breakfast is excellent, a good variety of cereals, hot food, fruit, yogurt and a seemingly endless supply of tea and toast! We were given great instructions on getting to the main part of the city and the room was comfortable and spacious with a spotless ensuite which was small but perfectly adequate for our needs. Having previously stayed in hostels when I have visited Edinburgh, this made a welcome change and I'm sure we will stay

We chose this because we don't like to be in the center of the big towns we visit. Even if it is a little bit far from the Edinburgh centre, the bus connection is excellent and at a few steps from the house. The Portobello beach is also close, a stunning place, really worth a visit.
