We stayed in a recently refurbished rom and it was very comfortable and quiet. A new large shower cubicle and shower had been installed and was very welcoming first thing in the morning. All Staff were extremely friendly and informative about services on offer in hotel. The room was fitted with a card controlled electricity system which was great as it prevented lights being left on when the room was unoccupied.

The room is brand new, with modern decoration and fully equiped. We apreciated very much that there were facilities in the room to make tea, coffee or hot chocolate and they provided as water for free and even cookies.I strongly recommend this hotel!. Our room was not ready when we arrived but there was no problem storing our suitcases at the front desk. Our room was small but clean, beds were comfortable and the view from our room looking out over the main street and Edinburgh castle was incredible !!! The hotel is old and has alot of character, and is in a great location to get to the Royal Miles and Edinburgh castle !. -very friendly staff, we were early for check-in so they securely held our bags so we could go see the city without the hassle or dragging bags around -check-in and out was very simple -amazing room, huge bed, great view - could see the castle from our huge windows in room -useful amenities were provided -great location -amazing value for money paid. For travelers using public transportation, this is the perfect place to stay! The staff, particularly Andrew, were most helpful when a glitch occurred with our first night's reservation. Hot pot and snack in rooms; Breakfast was hot and made to order! Renovations are underway so quality of rooms varies. Beautiful views from the lounge. Warm reception by staff. My room was upgraded free to a triple room due to non fuctional heater in the double room. This was after prompt response from technical staff and attempt to restore it. I was impressed at the Manager being concerned too and even apologised for the inconviniences. The location also is very good, at city center. The room was clean and comfortable, in the double room where my parents slept the bathroom smelt slighty of mold, but my room was perfect. The ongoing repairs at the hotel was visible, but not distrubing in any way. The location is fabulous, as well as the views from the windows facing Prices Street. The hotel was very quiet. I had a recently refurbished room 409. The bedroom had a nice sized TV, bed was comfortable, with decent furniture. was very nicely decorated.The bathroom was excellent, and had very nice styled furnishings. Also the shower was a walk in design with plenty of room and great access for a big man like me. INCREDIBLE location! Right on Princes Street, literally opposite the station. 5 minutes from Royal Mile, museums, and castle. Great in the morning and in the evening just to take a walk around beautiful Edinburgh. Single occupancy still had big comfy double bed. Free wifi real bonus. Booked a single room which turned out to be a small double. Room size excellent. Furniture adequate but a bit dated as was the general décor in the room. Was not disturbed by noise from other guests or the area which was a pleasant surprise considering the location. Lift to all floors. the best location, directly infront of the train station, located in the city center on the main street beside all the spots. the stuff were cooprative, when there was aproblem they changed our room immediatly. the room seems to be recently innovated and well decorated. We had plans made for checkin time and were able to leave our bags earlier also,the hotel kept our bags after checking out which was great as we had a late flight.The tea and coffee were very welcome after a days sightseeing!. The hotel opposite the main station on Princess Street could be better placed. Great location, right next to Waverley Station and a 5 min walk to the Royal Mile. Twin room is quite standard room, although comfortable. Tea tray with shortbread was great. The hotel was friendly and accessible. Nothing to complain about. The only thing i could mention is that it would be nice if there was a safe in the room. -it was a little confusing trying to get to reception the first time -very poor service in restaurant for breakfast - w were sat at a dirty table and it took the waitress 10 minutes to come back for our drink and food order. Routes to the rooms were circuitous...perhaps because of current renovations. Not being able to view sports channel of my choice due to only available free view channels. The bar can be upgraded to multi view. The temporary restaurant room was looking a bit shabby and the window was open although it was rather cold outside. Also the staff seemed a bit absent-minded. But the hotel itself was good, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. The only down side was the lift only goes to the floor below and there is aa awkward staircase to traverse. But that's just a minor issue. Almost nothing. Very hard to find any fault at all! (Seriously) minor quibbles would be was undergoing refurb at the time?.. Though having to ring a bell to be let in hardly a major inconvenience. Had to ask for wifi reset in the morning?.. Tiny quibbles otherwise perfect. Shower was rather small but a small price to pay considering the price and location. there was no hot water in the room, but stuff moved us to another room. there are many categories of rooms with same price, its like lottery and luck, all rooms have the basics but with different quality. The menu was a bit of a let down. Dinner in the restaurant was below average. Not sure if this was because it was chefs night off (Monday night). I was a bit worried about having breakfast there but was glad I did as it was very nice. Nothing of note. Public areas, particularly corrdors and staircases, were in need of renovation. However, the Reception and Dining/bar areas were most attractive, so I assume this is in progress. Shower is just a nozzle on the wall, while control is too low, so one get his head wet by a cold/hot watter in order to turn it on/off. Separated taps for hot/cold watter (as happens in the UK). Old windows which are hard to be opened/closed. No drinking watter in the room! Check-in from 3pm, which is pretty late, no room to change the dress available. Breakfast (we chose continental) was ok, but not great. Some problems to get mobile connected to the wifi. Can't remember anything that I didn't like. Bad wi-fi; because of very central location a bit noisy at day and night. Rooms were a bit dated and needed a coat of paint. Our bathroom smelled of stale water due to poor ventilation. Decor - room a bit tired, particularly bathroon could have done with an upgrade, however shower was excellent and all facilities were in perfect working order, including heating and lighting. On arrival my son went into his room to discover that someone else was already occupying it! He was moved to a room close by but at the back of the hotel. Nothing. Everything is good!. no negative points. Large Screen TV was excellent but takes up to much room and should be hung from a wall. A little bit outdated. Carpet old and worn. Reception and dining areas very modern which made the contrast worse. Fortunately I woke up,coz I didn't get my early morning call!!. absolutely nothing, except leaving!. Lovely room but cold. Heaters in room but radiator not on. On reflection, I think the suggestion to bill in my currency was to increase the cost over the bank's currency rate;. Breakfast finishes at 10:00...if you start your breakfast at 9:45, at 10:00 without any warning they break down the cold bar, so you cannot have a second glass of juice, or anything from there... Nothing. I didnt like the work being done in the lobby entrance but could see it is needed and will be fabulous when complete ..but my one dislike was that the lift was very small and felt very closed in .. There was an electric heather in room but the main heating system was not on. The hall ways were in need of a paint and tidy up. the room was strangely arranged so that it was difficult to use the wardrobes. Noisy doors in our 3 room area and easy to hear conversations in other rooms. Presume stairs & corridors will be updated to the same standard as room over time. Found mattress a little hard but that is all. Double glazed Windows needed at front of hotel to reduce late night, early morning noise. Didn't actually dislike anything but the area away from the reception, bar, lobby area is quite dated and in need of modernising compared to the reception/bar area. many noisy conditioners inside the yard. Although the rooms were clean on closer inspection the carpets around the edges,the skirting boards and window sills were dusty. On a windy day/night the window rattled and kept us awake also drafts from windows. Rooms are somewhat dated, but size, location and staff made this a place I would gladly come back to with my family. The non-refurbished rooms look a bit dated, but they're otherwise fine.
