Due to bad weather and a change in plans, my husband made the booking over the internet for myself and my teenage daughter as we arrived in Edinburgh late at night. He chose the Bank Hotel as it had a late check-in. We were not sure what we'd find, but we were welcomed by very friendly, helpful staff, who offered to carry our suitcase up the three flights of stairs to our room. The staff was extremely accomodating. They were able to check us inearly in our rooms and treated us to breakfast shortly after ourarrivial on Tues 22-Dec (around 7:30 am) -- having taken theCaledonian sleeper train on Monday 21- Dec from London. This was our(me, my wife and our 2 adult children) 1st trip to Scotland and thismade it very special.

They even offered to mind our bags for a few hours when we checked out which was a great relief as our flight wasnt until 9pm that evening and we were wondering what to do. the other thing I loved were the small touches like the proper sized mugs for tea in the room with shortbread biscuits. It made it feel really homey. the rooms were really fun and interesting compared to your boring chain hotels. The location on the royal mile is excellent and it helps that the bar is 24hrs.It had character and was in an excellent location. I liked the themed room aspect of our room and hope to try another room on a later visit. fantastic room - large and comfortable. very impressive decor!. Good full breakfast and the proximity of the hotel to the castle for the Tattoo and Royal Mile and being near main attractions - location!. Overall -- the Bank was a greatexperience! We hightly recommend it. I thought I wouldn't like a room above a bar, but there was no noise at all. There was some traffic noise, as the hotel is on the corner of a main road. But it was fine. I would stay again.Quite noisy and open long hours until 3am but did not stop us sleeping. We would recommend it with some reservations. We had a problem with a loose toilet seat. The staff were very helpful but were unable to access any maintenance crew to effect a repair.The service for breakfast was terrible we were kept waiting an hour and a half one day and an hour another day! A lot of other guests complained too!!! Also on 3 days there wasn't enough hot water for me and my partner to have a bath or shower!!! We did learn later after several complaints that they were having trouble with the bolier but they didn't bother to inform the guests of this. The matras needs replacement. Aircon will be a nice extra. If you open the window in the day it is quite noisy outside, but after 18h00 it gets quiet.noisy location if windows need to be open. Outside noise and access through bar only. no elevator. i was disappointed on arrival to be told we had no booking and no room of the type we booked was available.After a wait while it was sorted we were offered another roomat a reduced rate.The serving of breakfast could have been a little more efficient. The entry to the hotel is through the bar. There is no formal reception/entry and the site you should advise the client to register with one of the the bar tenders. The staff was nice an the hotel was good and will stay there again..We did not like kareoke until midnight preventing us from settling down on the night of 15/7/08 and even less did we like the music from the bar below going on until 1 am on the night of the 16th. services in room..No hairdryer,,,only one bath robe,,. can be a little noisey at night. very loud outside on a Monday night, rooms interessting but I found it a bit spooky!. It was far too noisy all night long outside the hotel (traffic, peopleshouting and singing etc). The windows did little to keep this out, eventhough we were on the top floor. I suggest anyone who stays at the BankHotel takes earplugs in order to get some sleep!. Awful breakfast! Ghastly service. Loud music and TV in dirty bar.noise from nightclub leavers, breakfast was poor in quantity. Bank Hotel is also a Bar where the staff work both at once, it took anhour to get Breakfast (great mean once it arrived) service at the timewas appalling. No problem with staff just not enough of them and noorganisation. Also a long flight(s) of stair(s) to climb to the Rooms.The Bed was falling apart, ie new mattress desperatelty needed.Breakfast was not available at the times stated 7.30-10.00. I left the hotel at 7.50am and a continental breakfast was still not available even though it had been paid for in the room price. The noise during the night went on to 4 am.
