We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel, the room was lovely and bed very comfortable. It was quiet and our sleep was not disturbed. The breakfast was excellent and service was excellent. We stayed at this hotel during a walking (without the aid of zimmer frames) weekend on the South Downs. The service of the staff was superb and the evening meal was outstanding; although the rooms may be a bit on the small side the Lansdowne has many different lounge areas to relax in. Don't be put off by the ageist remarks of other reviewers, there was a cross section of people staying at this hotel, including visitors from other European countries. Had a job interview in Eastbourne, and picked this hotel because it was literally round the corner from where I needed to be. Very comfortable night's sleep, an excellent 'help yourself' breakfast buffet, and an extremely helpful owner. Great value, and would definitely recommend - and a bonus for those of you who are less mobile for any reason, it has a lift to all floors! - Rosemary

I love staying at the Hydro. OK, it isn't a place for young trendies, and it is more suited to those of a certain age than young families... but it is perfect if you want a quiet holiday with just a bit of class. It isn't a Five Star hotel, and doesn't pretend to be. However, the rooms are comfortable, the staff are polite and helpful, the service is good, the breakfast is excellent, the lounge menu is very good value, the garden delightful (with croquet and putting on the lawn). I recently had a one night stay with a work colleague at this hotel and wish I could have stayed longer. We did have a problem finding somewhere to park at first but we went round the block a couple of times and managed to find a space on the seafront that was close by so it wasn't too bad. This hotel is dated in parts but seemed to be well maintained and was extremely clean. We have just come back from a two night stay at the cumberlad hotel. We are a family of four with 2 young children. 2 and 7 months. We booked this as a last minute trip and were surprised at how lovely and relaxing it was. Our room was spacious even though we had 4 beds in there and the staff were really helpful when we were coming in and out of the hotel. At breakfast time they had set a table with a highchair for us and the waiters would help me get the girls breakfast so I didn't have to l - Louise

This hotel is what all hotels with history should be like and lives up to its "Grand" name. It is unquestionably traditional, chintzy decor etc and the only really obvious concession to modernity is the flat screen tv in the room. It is clean and well maintained. The outdoor heated swimming pool is a real treat although this facility was made easier by the unseasonably great weather at the end of Sept. I spent a week at the Reymar in July and enjoyed my stay very much. Very conveniently located (beach 1 minute walk, main shopping centre about 15 minutes walk), in a quiet street. The room was very comfortable, with a small but fully equipped bathroom. V. clean place. The high-speed internet connection worked impeccably. It was just our intention to visit Eastbourne, but when we saw a 'vacancy' sign at the hotel, we popped in, were told there was only one room available and invited to view before deciding to stay overnight, which we did - and then sat down to a cream tea with perfect scones still warm from the oven, a good cup of tea from a non dripping teapot (a rarity these days). We thought the hotel was as cheap as a travelodge but with an excellent breakfast, served in the window looking out to the beach (15 mtrs away) Parking was busy, but we found a space. The guy running the hotel, new most things about Eastbourne, restaurants, pubs etc.. The room needed updating, but everything worked and for £50 thought it was a bargain. - Clare

I highly recommend for anybody to stay at this "wonderful" hotel. You will never find the type of service that this hotel offers anywhere. They were very helpful, accomodating, friendly and all around one of the best hotel i have ever stayed at. The rate was incredibly cheap and Charlene their daughter was very entertaining. We are from Ausralia and were touring the UK and had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful hotel in early September. The location is excellent as its near all the the main attractions as well as the beach. This family run hotel has real charm and the owners were very friendly, helpful and hospitable and took particular intrest in making us feel at home. I wish we could say the same about some large 4 star hotels we stayed at. The room was very pleasant, comfortable and clean. I hope the o - Jon

What a transformation this hotel has undergone since my last stay! I could hardly believe that it was the same place ,as the reception, bar, lounge, restaurants etc have been totally refurbished and it looks like a different hotel. Even the ceilings have been raised. The last time I stayed at the Langham was in 2003 and I was not at all happy. it looked jaded, dingy and out of date, and the staff lacked enthusiasm.
