The hotel was in a good location, a selection of two menus tochoose from where we had a pleasant evening meal and good spatreatments offered. the boiler had broken in the swimming pool so it was rather cold but this couldn't be helped. The food wasn't great in the bay tree restaurant but was ok!. long waiteception at one point but was very busy. I had to upgrade from a standard room to a luxury room so that I could have a smoking room.Room was quite small - OK for one night though. Reception told us breakfast ended at 10:30 but when we got to breakfast at 10:10 they said it ended at 10 and only after some pleading did we manage to have breakfast. Communication between the departments did not seem very fluid.The reception staff though nice had a difficult grasp of English and this could be frustrating and the service in the restaurant was quite slow. Lack of communication from the staff in terms of having to move rooms, i had to move from one room to the other and remove all of my luggage, this caused inconvenience and didnt allow me to have a settled 2 night stay.the cost of breakfast was way too much so will never eat there. Bar , food ,very expensive - ordered brakfast , wrong choice of items came couldnt get waiter to understand and he just shrugged his shoulders and walked off. The bar was ridiculously overpriced and whilst i anticipated a posh hotel in the south charging almost £4 a pint i was horrified to note they were charging exactly the same for soft drinks which was appalling. The size of the room - we had quite a lot of baggage with us and there was nowhere to put it .Cost of meals. service sometimes lacked understanding. I was very upset at the lack of signage to the rooms - I constantly got lost trying to find my way back to the room. The room was very small and the TV only worked on a couple of channels. The spa shut at 8:30 in the evening so, if you travel from work you will pay extra for facilities you can't use.no continental breakfast cost as advertised. The room and bed particularly were smaller than we're used to for the room rate paid. The bathroom fan ran continuously and the receptionist didn't know if it should do so. We were told it would be seen to but we had no feedback. The swimming pool was not available on the afternoon we arrived, the only time we could use it. My wife's vegetarian meal on Friday evening was poor.the price of the food. Despite request for a quiet room, the air conditioning apparatus outside the room was noisy! A very busy hotel!. the bar staff duringthe day very good,during the evening rude,arrogant ,lazy. All in all I enjoyed the stay but thought it was a little overpriced.We had to change rooms as the tv was broken in our first room then we were changed to a room that had a dirty nappy in the bin and other personal objects from the person befor us. I booked in at the spar to get my nails done and they were running late, i had to have 20 mins done by one lady then the changed over and the other lady finished my nails of but they did not complete to a good standard. Our first night we arrived back to our room very late after eveningcelebrations when we had to call reception to ask housekeeping to changethe bedlinen due to uncleanliness! The spa were unprofessional in theircorrespondence when I booked a treatment. Generally everything wasoverpriced and required card authorisation which meant a long trek backto reception from room.

Travelling information

From the M25 Take the M25 until Junction 6, then follow the signs for Eastbourne and East Grinstead on the A22. Continue on the A22 and the hotel is approximately nine miles from Junction 6, situated on the left hand side of the A22 at Felbridge.
From the M23 Take the M23 until Junction 10, then follow the signs for East Grinstead on the A264, passing over two roundabouts. Keep on this road until you reach the 'T' junction at the Felbridge traffic lights, the Star Inn is on your left hand side. Turn right at the traffic lights onto the A22 and the hotel is 50 yards down the road on the left hand side.
