As we drove up the very long driveway, we turned the corner and the modern part of Crown Plaza and traditional Heythrop Hall came into view - spectacular! I'd booked for a party of 7, myself, husband, 3 children aged 17, 14 and 11 plus my parents for my mother's 70th birthday. We were all impressed and my mum thought it a wonderful birthday surprise. We did the 1 and 2 mile walks around the hotel's picturesque grounds. My eldest son used the gym and all the children used the swimming pool. Free.
all reviews » I cannot say enough about the staff at The Heythrop Hall and the Crown Plaza. Without exception every one was so helpful, pleasant, and kind. You MUST let your staff know that they are doing a FAB job. The room we had at the Crown Plaza was really comfortable and plush. The choice of places to eat was also excellent as we didn't want to be tied to a set time to eat, so ate in the Brassey bar. Excellent and again the staff were TOPS. Will certainly be coming again and the best thing is its on. Beautiful setting in acres of grounds with woods. The hotel and grounds were kept spotlessly clean All the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. Rooms bright and cheerful with an all-round sense of luxury. location ,room,lovely furnishings bathroom and shower.. plenty of choice for breakfast ..would stay again .unfortunateley we could only stay one night so didn't have chance to use all the facilities . stayed for three nights great location brilliant staff and hotel had a great feel of past history,it is what it is so go somewhere else if you want that corperate feeling. The hotel and grounds were a great location to spend a quiet weekend to relax from the pressure of everyday life. The food in the restaurant was excellent. Everything the grounds are beautiful and so quite loved the golf course and walking around the grounds. The staff went the extra mile to get us into the restaurant when it was fully booked. Room good standard Grounds stunning. When we checked in we were told the restaurant was fully booked so we either had option of a bar meal or a barbeque on the lawn. We would have liked to try the restaurant as it was a special occasion but we appreciated that it was bank holiday weekend and everyone seemed to have descended on the Cotswolds. If you really want to eat in restaurant it would be advisable to try and book in advance. The only problem for me ( i have walking difficulties) was the trek from the Hall (on the first night) to go to eat in the Crown Plaza.. The Spa definately needs a hairdresser, Thats all, everything else was FAB. The dining room really lets the hotel down. Whilst the staff are trying their best and the food is delicious and beautifully served, the waiting times for the food to arrive is appalling. We waited 30-50 minutes for the first course and then the same again for the main course, making the meal about 2 1/2 hours long. I waited 20 minutes for a pot of tea one morning at breakfast. Sliced toast instead of home-made breads was very disappointing. The bedroom was a little cramped and our room 2052 had no view save that of a tree. The shower was difficult to control but this may have been due to a fault tap mechanism. Nowhere to put you suitcase. It was expensive and whilst the bedroom was well appointed it was small. For our purposes, was a little too far from Chipping Norton, about 5 miles, We really wanted to be within walking distance, but it was offered as a replacement, so no complaints whatsoever. Nothing. Nothing. The room was rather small. The price of drinks and poor service in the golf club bar. I think a breakfast should have been included in the price of the room.price of meals was to much. our varandar/patio had no chairs.tried to watch a movie and it didn't work.the driveway is in need of repair. No jacuzzi. Spa had limited availability. Bedside light not working. Air conditioning controls - seemed impossible to turn off. Plug missing from bathroom washbasin which is not good for people who wet shave and also not eco-friendly - these things should be checked. Nothing to dislike. Fire alarm waking me up. I have given this hotel a Good review however I found the hotel to be too quiet with only a handful of guests staying, leaving the hotel with a cold lifeless atmosphere. The room was smaller than expected and paint work was peeling from one of the walls and the shower temp was to hot and couldn't be changed. When we arrived 3 of the lights in. The bedroom did not work and also the extractor fan in the bathroom did not turn off during the night and kept us awake. I didn't like the fact that we only had one drawer in the whole room between two & only three hangars each! I would have preferred the spa/ pool to be within the main hotel building. Rooms were smaller than I thought they would be considering the price per might. Meal in Brasseys restaurant was decidedly average and was quite expensive. We were with a group. The food was terrible. The decor was like something I have never experienced before in my life. We thought it was ugly. The room was small but very clean-only 1 soft chair to sit in& it was very expensive for the sq footage. We thought we had entered the 'Twilight Zone'. We had to get a taxi from entrance to local bus stop.. Bar staff told us they have a 4x4 that would have dropped us. Next day we asked but the duty manager said NOONE TO TAKE US so we had to walk it was pouring with rain we are a couple in our 50's and it took us over an hour.. customer relations very poor it would have only taken 5 mins very disapointed. showers in bathroom have to be repaired, small defects which make you nervous. Having to pay £9 for very poor wifi service. I would seriously consider NOT coming again because of this reason. what a silly policy. you can get free wifi in macdonalds for heavens sake. doesn't say much about your policy. Food was not enjoyable - took an hour to arrive at the brassey bar one evening. Breakfast too eagerly cleared away - my partner was still finishing and put down his cutlery to have a drink and the plate was taken!.
