The room was very pleasant and well appointed, in an interestinglocation. Good selection of food in the bar. Swimming pool was a treat.Availability of car park. Guest lounge with log fire. Friendly staff. The staff were very friendly especially the bar staff. The food was very good and the service both in the bar and dinning room was very good. The location, friendly staff and good restaurant and bar. Bar and waiting staff very friendly and efficient. Enjoyed use of pool and gym - however showers did not work. Potential to be a great hotel but requires more management to deliver consistent quality and service. Pool and gym. Friendly staff -some v helpful. Good breakfast.the friendly atmosphere. good breakfast, nice dining room, interesting building. The location was the best thing. Did not think it appropriate or correct that we had to pay for the hotel services before we had received any!. Although we had a 4-poster bed it had no drapes or cover so was really just a normal bed with 4 great posts in the way. Access to the Meeting Room was via another conference room which was in use on the second day. Poor Mobile network coverage.Bar food was much better than dining room and cheaper. so many stairs (but it's not surprising in such an old building). Room was a little dark for reading, only BBC1 was available on the television, no shower curtain over bath.these however are minor gripes. 1) room not warm enough in the morning when it had snowed overnight (heating barely on) 2) my mattress wasn't that comfortable - I wondered if had ever been turned. Only a Bath was available in room En Suite. Unable to use shower on top level of hotel due to inadequate water pressure. Prior warning of the many stairs would have helped.Room was dark- didn't feel I wanted to spend any time there. Actual room didn't feel like value for money. Sunday morning breskfast was very crowded and they ran out of some foods. Staff at this meal very busy and had to wait. The room was very cold and was heated up using 2 portable heaters, one very noisy. As we were on the top floor the bathroom ceiling was slanted so taking a comfortable shower was not possible. The food in the restaurant was not up to expectations given the prices. My shower didn't work and the room was very noisey owing to the fact that it faced directly onto the courtyard of the pub. I was given a another room higher up with a shower that worked perfectly. There was no attendant at the swimming pool and when I mentioned it, they said that it was ok because it was monitored by a close-circuit TV. I was completely alone there. The lounge was small and on the first evening was booked for a meeting so there was nowhere to sit other than at upright tables in the small bar. The main restaurant was not open and the bar meals were very limited. No separate shower in the ensuite bathroom only a hand held unit over the bath. There was not enough room in the dining room for all the guests that wanted breakfast on Sunday morning as there was quite a queue waiting for tables. The food at the restaurant was poor quality and we waited to long to have our food!. Could not shower, remote did not work television. Sadly it seemed a little tired in areas, so for the money was unsure? Breakfast was poor.Noisy room above the bar. Some "tired" facilities - eg the blind on the Velux window disintegrated when we attempted to lower it. Sound insulation from the road was inadequate - very noisy fromcontinuous traffic. Radiator did not work. Internet access veryunreliable so was not able to complete planned work. I did mention thisto the hotel staff but they had no satisfactory resolution. Hotelrestaurant very expensive. Would have benefited from advance info. Onthe car park - and clearer directions on arrival. The noise from the courtyard at night made it very difficult to sleep - 2am and people were still partying outside on both nights we stayed. Room was very hot and the windows did not open. We asked for the heating to be turned down but nothing happened. Our room (in the coach house) was very cold - the bedclothes felt almost damp with the cold and we had to lay our coats over the bed to keep warm.Wasn't impressed with the rooms. Hotel was nearly empty but they still did not bother to use their better rooms as shown on web page. Staff required training to deliver consistent service -understanding of English very limited.Bar food average one meal sent back twice and still did not contain all promised ingredients!. Restaurant expensive with mediocre food. No help offered with luggage. V narrow staircase and although it was obvious I was struggling no offer came. I'm elderly. The room was not very warm compared to the rest of the hotel although we did get very warm looking for the room as the directions and signing was unfathomable in the warren like carridors. The room was very very cold There was only one extra blanket for twin beds and what little heating from one radiator went off in the night. we slept with jumpers on and our winter coats over us. Loads - room decorated in post-war utility charm - 3 heavy framed hunting scene pictures, none of which was straight. Wake up alarm came at 7.20 instead of 7.30, but still told me it was 7.30! Room and corridor to it stank. Exhorbitant prices for what you get.The electricity supply to our room kept tripping, leaving us with no power/lighting. Nothing. My room was so cold. They brought me a fan heater, when I put it on it sounded like a drill. The ceiling was damp and there was even water dripping from the ceiling, We asked for directions to the theatre and the staff sent us in the wrong direction!!.
