We chose Thistle Cheltenham because a few weeks earlier we had stayed in The Atlantic Tower - Thistle in Liverpool and enjoyed our stay so much we looked for the Thistle name for our visit to Cheltenham. Excellent in every respect. The room was easily on a par with Liverpool (except no flat screen TV but this was not a problem). Before we went down to breakfast we had a free swim, Jacuzzi and sauna.

The room was lovely and we have visited the hotel several times over the past 10 years and always enjoy returning to the Thistle Cheltenham. Lovely hotel and the breakfast was very nice. Staff/service; pool/gym; room/bathroom/bed all comfortable;breakfast. Rooms were good, location was great, staff friendly and great to have a pool. Breakfast was the best part of the hotel however!!!. Use of hotel facilities, ie. Bar, restaurant and swimming pool.The room, the facilities and extras and the service. We did not use the bar and restaurant and thought it was a shame that the Thistle Hotel does not do a weekend break package including dinner. the food was very good and enjoyable. Edge of town location, car needed to go anywhere. Accessible for motorway (M5) and Gloucester, good as a touring/driving hotel. the price of drinks!!!. I am afraid our visit was spoiled by the fact that the toilet did notflush - the handle was broken. I reported this, so no doubt it will beok for future users. Enjoyed relaxing in the leisure club, but it was in dire need of a facelift.Suggest turning down air conditioning in breakfast room. Drinks were flat and expensive, Evening meal too fancy and expensive so we ate out and in the morning we heard complaints from other guest that the evening meal was a disgrace. Breakfast was also disorganised.nt able to have breakfast as I needed an early start and breakfast was not until 7. evening meals were on the expensive side,but the food was good. It had said it was reduced from £165 to £70 for a luxury room. I was happy to pay £70 but would have been disappointed if I had paid £165. drinks charges. Still a fair bit of external cleanup work required after a big refurbishment project. Somewhat haphazard service in dining room. Car parking charge. Shower water pressure. We were charged £5 for parking. Parking should be free for customers. the double room we booked was a twin with the beds pushed together,but other than that no. The water system was noisy and the use by others was audible from early hours in the morning. Some of your male middle managers tended to be slovenly, whilst wearing ties, they chose to have them dangling from an open necked collar.Very slow checking out service - old computer system used. Service in restaurant was slow. the original room had a very small bed, but was changed on request. On Sunday morning, having breakfast in the restaurant. The staff appeared to be running around like headless chickens. You had to wait a while for it all to be replenished. Tables were left a while before being cleaned. There weren't enough waiting staff and it appeared that management were wearing all hats.Situated near a big road intersection there was a lot of traffic noise which, owing to the shape of the outside wall was channelled into my bedroom like an ear funnel. Was there double glazing??. Only two small milks in room every day. Request for Earl Grey tea bags were promised to be sent to room-never arrived. Daily telegraph vouchers were said on arroval would be ok when checking-out ,then refused. Hall handrails were sticky-not cleaned for some hours. Breakfast-see above. Standard poor for a 4 star hotel with 2 rosettes.Staff except one were unsmiling., especially in the restaurant.
