We had booked an overnight stay on the way back from Scotland. Our choice was an executive room - DB&B at a very good rate. The room was large and very comfortable and had a balcony overlooking the countryside and immaculate gardens. There were lots of 'extras' including superior toiletries, very large towelling robes, slippers, bottled water, chocolate, a safe and a coffee pod machine. There were 2 comfortable chairs and an excellent tv. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Dini.
all reviews » The hotel was in a lovely setting in the select village of Wetheral, close to the city of Carlisle. Lovely walks by the river Eden, just minutes away and lots of history in the nearby St. Constantine's cell and the English Heritage abbey gatehouse. The room, although small, was immaculately decorated and very clean with lovely white crisp linen and soft fluffy towels. The swimming pool and Jacuzzi were lovely and added a relaxing element to the stay. Breakfast was very special, served in the co. The relaxed but smart look of all the rooms made our stay pleasurable, Staff encouraged an atmosphere that was friendly and homely.. The garden rooms and the garden were a lovely bonus. As an extended family we have met up in your hotel on two important occasions. After eating the adults have relaxed whilst the four young children have played in the garden. The food in the dining room and the bar was excellent and the staff were just lovely. We will definitely visit again and recommend you for. We really enjoyed our stay at the Crown Hotel. Our standard double room was above average in size, very clean and comfortable. Hotel staff were very helpful and professional, and provided excellent service. We were quite impressed by the quality of the food served during our evening meal at the Conservatory Restaurant. Wetheral is a lovely quiet village surrounded by magnificent countryside. We had a fantastic meal at Fantails Restaurant in this village. Their wines were excellent too. This was supposed to be a stop-gap hotel after travelling around the north of England and before we went on to the Lake District. What a lovely little gem it turned out to be. It had a lovely atmosphere and the staff were plenty and helpful in the extreme. If anyone is visiting Carlisle I would recommend stopping here instead of in the city. It is only 8 miles away and also on a trainline. The village of Wetherall is charming. The hotel is situated in Wetheral, a pretty village 3 miles outside Carlisle and is very comfortable with a spa, swimming pool, gym, good restaurant, friendly bar with good food and very helpful staff. We found the Victorian train station and, on the other side of the railway lines the very pretty village of Great Corby. Didn't have enough time to explore so will have to go back. Hotel is set in a quiet, picturesque village with interesting geographical and architechural features. The village has a relaxing old world charm but if you want to expend a bit of energy the hotel has a very good leisure complex. The staff dealt efficiently with a complaint on one of our breakfasts. All the staff were attentive and polite and did their best to please. Friendly staff,good sized room and they were very considerate to put us in a room away from the function on the Friday night. (Didn't hear a thing). The food in the conservatory was excellent well presented and tasted wonderful. Well worth the £26 per head. Very near to Carlise just a ten minute drive from the mart. Great Service. Even though there was a large wedding taking place, the service levels in the rest of the hotel didn't suffer. Lovely bar and restaurant. Superior room was great, with a little balcony over looking the gardens. Located a few miles off the M6, it was a great stop off place on the way up to Scotland. As we only stayed one night we did not do much exploring of the area etc. Hopefuuly be back for a longer stay. the hotel is spotlessly clean with airy comfortable rooms, efficient and friendly staff and a great restaurant supported by a chef and staff with flair and style. An excellent country house style hotel that delivers on every level. The idyllic setting does help of course!. The local walks in the Eden valley, plus Fantails Restaurant just a short walk away from the hotel. Also, the railway station is worth a visit as its like stepping back to the railway's golden years of the fifties and sixties. The staff couldn't have done more to welcome us, they were incredibly attentive, especially the night porter who brought us a wonderful tray of breakfast at 5.15am before we set off on a 26 mile charity trek. The continental brekfast menu was a little unimaginative. Traditional cooked breakfasts were good. Couldn't find anything to dislike except having to leave before fully exploring the area. Carlisle is much the same as any other shopping centre. Thesoundproofing could be improved between the adjoining room 250/252. Fortunately our neighbouring guests didn't stay up late so it didn't cause a major problem. Would have liked my water replaced on the second night, but this is trivial. Bar/lounge lighting was too bright for the evening - just being a bit picky. Nothing to denote as we were so impressed. This is a rather personnel issue but I found the bed rather soft !!!! On the plus side a great size. No complaints. Oh yes food in bar alright but one on our party had fish and it was poor poor....... there is no area in which I can find any reason for criticism. Leaving!. Nothing to report, as I found every thing and every one top class. Nothing, can't fault this hotel on quality, facilities or price. No lift to the room on the 2nd floor. Very popular with non residents so at times seating in the lounge area limited. My wife had a manicure at the spa which she thought was substandard. Minor details were......Bit more pressure on water in the bathroom, wifi weak. The fan for the fire in the bar caused a noise in the chimney but this was dealt with by putting out the fire. It's only a very minor point but the pool is a little deep in places and changes depth quite suddenly. Nothing really. Nothing comes to mind. I did point out to the receptionist that the bathroom basin needed a thorough clean as he the drain was very unheigenic. The shower which was no more than a trickle and the noisy radiator and air conditioning unit which we heard as we had the balcony window and door open as it was a very hot night. Absolutely nothing!!!. Breakfast - hotel couldn't cope with number of people. Room a little expensive for its size. There was nothing we would suggest as we were very satisfied with our stay at The Crown. The only thing which annoyed us was the banging of room doors both nights until on the second night we phoned reception . Nothing to do with hotel but very inconsiderate of people to other people. Zeros. Nothing. Nothing. I believe our room was above a squash court. Can't think of anything. Leaving to go home!. Children's menu needs more selection. Carrying bags a long way to room. No lift. No lift found, even in newer buildings - difficult for luggage and tired feet!. The poor reception on the TV and low pressure of the shower. Bedroom was quite hot. TV didn't have clear picture on many channels - maybe due to close proximity of big trees. Can't think of anything. Nothing. The shower - poor spray and pressure. There were 3 windows in my room - they were all dirty on the outside - a shame.
