Booked at short notice, based on reviews on this site. Just returned home. Having stayed we can say that the reviews were spot-on! The hotel is stylish, very clean, the rooms are huge and very comfortable. The bathroom is large. Fluffy towels. Room nicely decorated. The breakfast buffet was was good. (Hot items as well as croissants, yoghurt, fruit, etc.) The hotel is peaceful.The staff were nice. It is a short trip outside the city but it is opposite "Star City", which is a good leisure facil.
all reviews » We had a twin room on the 3rd floor, it was very spacious, the beds were comfortable with a choice of pillows which was a nice touch. The towels were a good size and quality and the soap/shampoo(etc) dispensers in the bathroom were again a brilliant touch. The coffee machine in the lobby was brilliant and gave nice strong hot coffee. The staff were also cheerful and helpful. The hotel is well situated for shopping in birmingham whilst getting away from the main hussle of the city, the train sta. The eveningreception desk staff member was welcoming and very helpful with booking in. She came to my room quickly to help sort out a wi-fi connection problem and printed me directions to my next day appointment. The food; dinner and breakfast was very good for purpose, the room was spacious and comfortable - well appointed. Car parking free and no problem. I would definitely book again and recommend to others. Rooms are enormous. Wifi is free and easy to connect to (ie, no registration). There is an iron in the room. Ample free parking. Breakfast is automatically included with the room. But better than this is the atmosphere created by the staff. They all seem so natural, friendly and in good humour. I have stayed in 5 hotels in Birmingham and will definitely return here in preference to the others. The hotel is very well located near motorways, but we couldn't hear any noise! Lovely and quiet! The Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them to help. Great entertainment, restaurant and shopping complex across the road. The buffet breakfast was good and varied and included in the price. A very good stay overnight, thank you. My room was clean and comfortable. It had an iron and hair dryer which I used. There were tea and coffee making facilities again which I used, these could have been a bit more generous though. The shower was good and water hot. The room was nice and the shower facilities are very good as one could sit down on the side bench( specially if you were not able to stand). Misplacing my room card was swiftly solved by the morning reception worker with a replacement, however I do feel as a matter of security I should have been cross checked on the system to confirm my identity before its issue - a little too trusting!. Menu selection is limited, but very safe (eg, fish & chips, pizzas, lasagne, burgers, etc). However, Star City is across the road if you want something different. The twin beds were very close to each other; more like a double with a slit down the middle! The phone didn't work and I had to tweak the batteries in the TV controller for it to work in the double room! The staff were apologetic about them. Nothing. Not applicable (N/A). Some bacon at breakfast would have been nice!. The shower was leaking from the hose, the bed matters was too soft and needed changing room 107. The breakfast did not cater for Veg with hot food except beans on toast. We couldn't get many TV channels. Breakfast overall was great but the scrambled egg was tasteless even though there was plenty of it! There were no complementary newspapers on the Monday morning. The meal was of poor quality, edible but not something I would repeat. If I arrive earlier next time I will go elsewhere. Despite this the person preparing food/serving was very attentive also. Nothing it was great. Nothing. Everything was great. Nothing. No bacon in the buffet breakfast. None. Only one slight complaint - the mattress in our room was not that great - it seemed quite 'worn' and offered no support - I expected more comfort from Holiday Inn. Leaving!. That we were only there one night wish we had stayed on the Friday night aswell. No bacon or fried egg for breakfast. difficult to find as hotel do not have an adress as streetname and number. Used to stay when it was a Hampton by Hilton, the breakfast is now in no way in comparison with what it used to be. All I can say is bring back the bacon !!!. Difficult to find - I went round a one way system twice before I saw the sign to the hotel. Noisy at night as people smoking and drinking outside, i was on second floor and could still hear them, woke me at 3am. No bacon!!. can'T get A drink after 11 without paying on card. N/A. It was difficult to find the entrance- I drove around with the hotel in view but finding a way in posed a problem. Were going to The Horse Of The Year show at the NEC and it was just a bit too far out. needed to get two trains or a taxi to get there. Only one thing...I couldn't get the key to work in the door consistently...was trial and error. Location not that scenic though good access to the City made up for it!. we did not like having to leave the hotel, we would have loved to be staying for longer!. uht style milk, coffee mate would be great. cheap loo roll as always, can hear people in the corridor, but same everywhere so not a major issue. Perhaps people staying in hotels should just be a bit more considerate! :). Couldn't get the temperature right in the room so I was a bit warm. And why no bacon at breakfast?! (plenty other stuff to choose from though). There could have been a bit more variety for breakfast not the least the provision of bacon and some fried eggs. The sausages whilst welcome were very bland. Limited tv channel choice. appalling breakfast,. By modern standards poor TV channel selection, only 12 channels. the room was freezing as the heating did not work properly there were only two tv channels the pillows on the bed were cheap and might as well of not been there. entrance by car is awkward tv channel selection is also awkward. The breakfast selection wasn't that great but what was there was nice. breakfast choice/variety could be better.
