Nice place, clean and pleasant room, good breakfast, lift. Friendliness of the hotel staff and the room which was perfect for my needs. The very friendly staff and the comfortable room. Friendly staff. Excellent location.I was impressed with the staff, the cleanliness of the room, the shower (!) and the breakfast. Nice on the beach. Frist off, the hotel was nicer inside then the outside pictures suggested to us. We stayed in several rooms in the hotel. Not by choice but it wasn't that bad either. Three rooms to be exact. Several nights (4 out of 6) the ocean veiw was great. Breakfast was always good. The people were easy to talk to and actually worked with our daughter to have the room ready.

We paid the exact same price looking over the ocean or looking over the alley behind the hotel. And the price per night was high I thought. But there wasn't a lot of choices in town at the time. Having a double room given to us on the first night instead of a twin room. Outdated. TV had patchy reception and no mobile reception. either needs updatng on play on its 70's appearance!. Fire alarm went off at 2 00am on one night. No resident staff to deal with this. Not a word to guests from owner/manager who arrived around 30 mins after the alarm went off.Room had too much furniture maybe. Decor is rather tired - orange pine, red patterned carpets, plastic flowers. Because of location no phone signal and TV reception was dreadful. Breakfast/dining room in the basement with no windows.It was fine, nothing special for a comparativley high rate. Bedroomwindows didn't open properly. Nothing matched, patched wall paper in room was once a nice Victorian/Edwardian guest house but unfortunately has seen it's better days.Feels like old guest house and for £65 a night the comparison is with slick Premier inn standard hotel. My room was next to the lift shaft and had noise of winch. Serving hatch style reception is something I've only encountered in Manhattan and youth hostels. the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night and there was no-one on site to alert everybody, nobody knew how many guests were in the room, the phone wasn't working so we had to ring the fire brigade who then had to ring the owner to come and turn the alarm off. There was no explanation or apology offered, thank god it was a false alarm, the outcome could have been much worse. Just about everything , but particularly the filthy bathroom with a rickety, ill-fitting sliding door, the 4 plug socket which didn't work so there was only one lamp that lit, dangerous! The wardrobe that could only open one side because the other was rammed up against the side of the dressing table, the dirty chair covers, the lack of biscuits and any toiletries, extortionate price, etc .....
