I recently spent 5 nights in this property whilst on business in Istanbul. I would completely agree with the majority of reviews here. The highpoints of the hotel are: a) Location - moments walk from all of the Old City attractions - Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia, Cistern, Grand Bazaar etc etc. It is also almost right on top of a tram line that will take you to many of the other Istanbul attractions. b) Staff - they are friendly, efficient and funny. They actually engage with you as people rather than.
all reviews » In our opinion the this was the best possible place to stay in Istanbul. The views from the dining/breakfast room were stunning. While having breakfast, we could gaze at the Blue Mosque, the Aya Sophia, the sea of Marama and many other wonderful sights. In addition to this, the hotel was only a few minutes walk from the tram stop. So we were in a perfect location not only to walk to the best of the ancient sights, but also to get the tram to other parts of the city. The food was excellent. Th. The Hotel is an oasis of Ottoman charm set high on a hill overlooking the Blue Mosque and many other treasures of this wonderful city . The staff at the hotel were extremely helpful and polite at all times especially Tina and Tamara who were charming .. Nothing was too much trouble for them . The rooms are very comfotable with an lavish Ottoman style. My room on the 5th floor had a wonderful view of the city only surpassed by the view form the breakfast/dinning room terrace on the top floor. I . Great location - the Hagia Sophia Mosque and Sultanahmet Mosque in walking distance. You can get to the tram stop from hotel for three minutes. The windows of our rooms overlook the Hagia Sophia, the distance could be seen the palace Tapkapi. The hotel interior is rich and luxurious. On the 6th floor of the hotel is a terrace where you can have breakfast in the morning and have dinner in the evening. Breakfasts are delicious and very varied. The Staff at the Golden Horn Hotel are the most professional,courteous and helpful people you will ever meet.Tina,Tamara and Sami greet you ever time with a warm simile and a friendly hello.They make you feel comfortable in an unfamiliar place.The entire staff from the Front down do all they can to help you with any request.The pictures of the rooms on the web-site are exactly as they are.The breakfast is the best you find at any hotel in the world.The location is a short walk to lots of restau. This atmospheric hotel reminiscent of the days of the Orient Express is ideally located, just a few minutes walk from all the major sights. We breakfasted on 6th floor balcony overlooking the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia - quite breathtaking - and had the same view from our bedroom window. The staff are friendly and helpful. With its opulent Ottoman decor this hotel contibuted to the whole 'Istanbul experience' in a way that a bland international chain hotel would not have done. Travel tip . At first, I have to thank the EXCELLENT staff of the hotel who were very helpful & cheerful. The hotel is perfectly located just a short walk from the Grand Bazaar, the Blue Mosque, the Bosphorus whilst being situted in a quiet road with no through traffic. The staff were exceptional, nothing was a problem and the breakfast buffet had all you would require to support a busy day. There were at least 30 restaurants within 200m of the hotel, with a large proportion providing authentic Turkish cuisine. We will definitely make this the hotel to stay for any other trips in the future. The reception personnel were very nice. The guest relation were extremely discrete and highly professional and were very helpful in advise on what to do in the city, especially Tina & Tamara kiguradze ( Guest relation Managers). Location and service were great. For me, this is what I pay for. The location and views are the best in Istanbul. The guest service was even better, they made feel like a king being welcomed up every night when I returned. Thank you. A minor issue for some people might be the lack of alcohol but as there are countless bars just across the road this was not a problem for me. The Wi-Fi is weak and not available in the room.The only English T.V. station was Jimmy Swaggert.But I did learn some new gospel songs. The rooms are smaller than they look on the website and the bathrooms are tiny and basic. The bathroom locks are also dodgy - I got locked in and my daughter got locked out. This seems to be a regular occurence as the bell-boy who came to our aid was able to open them with a piece of wire within a couple of seconds. So take your phone into the bathroom wth you!. There is nothing to dislike about this excellent hotel. A few maintenance issues but they weren't a big problem. It would be nice I airport transfers were complimentary for guests. We arrived early in the morning and were offered to see a few rooms to choose from but finally chose the room they have allocated as being the best. Never experience such hospitality in my over 30 years of travelling worldwide. Nothing. Price could be definitely better. Nothing to complain about. nothing!. Cigarettes stink in the non smoking room. Sound Proofing was not that good, and the standard rooms were small. Nothing. It's an ALCOHOL FREE hotel which didnt bother us as there are loads of good restaurants & bars within a 5 minute walk. Nothing. We lived for 4 days and had no cleaning in the room, bathroom particulally. Poor noise isolation. Nothing to complain. No swimming pool. A complementary airport transportation should be considered for extended stay. - we had a standard room: size was ok but there was not a lot of closet space so we ended up keeping most of our clothes in our suitcase/bag. everything was really ok,. Slow wifi. No complaints - A bit old equipment in the bathrooms. there is one elevator. Small rooms, but it is normal at Sultan Ahmet area hotels, most of the hotels are the same size. Nothing. The lift was a little slow and quite small but not a real issue. It gets a bit noisy outside during the day because of the construction works nearby, but I suppose it's temporary. The soundproof was not good and we could hear sounds from the next room and the place of breakfast which was next to our room on the 6th floor. Also every day at 5.15 in the morning you can hear the prays from the mosques but this is not a problem of the hotel. They had charged our credit card before our arrival. The toilet in my room was smelling. The room was fine for one or two nights, but quirks be too small for a longer stay. -The room is little bit small. My only complaint would be that the room could be upgraded a bit. All ,inordinate things like a different shower instead of an insert and a few minor tears in wallpaper at the top most corners. However, it was very clean and o figure these are small concessions for the best view and service.
