Built in typical Alpine style, the Naturfreundehaus provides panoramic views of the Eiger and Wetterhorn mountains. It offers a large garden and free use of the internet terminal. In the garden there are sun loungers. There are also 3 shared living rooms and in summer you can take advantage of the shared kitchen. You can choose between private rooms and single beds in a dormitory. Bed linen is provided and every bed has its own reading lamp. Bathrooms including hairdryers are located on every floor. Showers can be found on the ground floor. Wines, beer, mineral water can be bought directly at the hostel. Dinner can be arranged on request. A washing machine and a dryer are available as well. The Naturfreundehaus enjoys an elevated position on the edge of Grindelwald.

I was travelling alone and booked a single room. The room on the first of 2 bedroom floors and was small but very clean. The toilets and wash basins were on the same floor and also clean and with hair dryers too. The showers were in the basement area and have to be the best showers in Switzerland. Hot, powerful and very clean. The breakfast is a buffet and plentiful in everything you could want. Excellent presentation and homemade yogurts, cheeses and jams, delicious warm breads and lots of dif.
all reviews » I stayed there for just 1 night but it was wonderful. I wish I was able to stay a little longer. It is just like a home, both the hostel owners were so friendly and warm. The check-in time was 2pm, I arrived 2 hours before, but without any hesitation and questions, she straightway gave us the keys and told us we can check-in. The way they manage it all by themselves is simply commendable. Every corner of the house has been utilized in the best possible manner, beautifully decorated and well- ma. A beautifull place to stay! Verry friendly owners (Vreni and Heinz) who are enthousiastic and verry kind to their guests. They are verry helpfull and give information about (other) areas (things to see & do). Verry use-able. The privat room was good, the bathroom was properly, the kitchen which you all can use is verry practical and clean, the terrace and 'relax' room are cozy, the diner you can reservate is excellent and by breakfast you have much to choose!! The shared showers weren`t a problem because it`s always very clean, and you feel like at home in this nicely located chalet above Grindelwald village. We had a diner there as well and it was just perfect. Given the cost of anything in GDW, we thought it was quite reasonable. Finally the breakfasts were a real feast...Simply perfect for me. 1.The host of hostel, Verena and Heinz are very nice and helpful. They help to plan our tour in Grindelwald. 2.Although there are a share bathroom and toilet hostel, it is very clean and no smell. 3. The breakfast and dinner are delicious. 4. The bus stop in front of the hostel. Very convenience. 5.Amazing mountain view from the room and leisure grassland. I received a very warm welcome and was immediatly given all sorts of information (brochures,bus time-tables etc.) for my planned mountain tour.Everything was very clean,the view from my room truely splendid,a lovely garden in front of the house and the vast choice of different mueslis and other delicious items for breakfast was simply astonishing!!. Location is good,you can get the bus line2 number21from bus station to the hostel it thake about 8 minute from grindelwald station.The staff is very kind,we are very happy there.The breakfast is very good. It was the perfect place to stay. I enjoyed this more then any other hotel in Switzerland. It was a great location up on the mountain side. Only 8 min walk to downtown shopping and food. Loved it!. As the hostel is located at the slop of hill, it is better to state clearly to take bus no.21 from train station and get off at neutralfriendhus stop and remind the guest the last bus time because it is hard to carry the heavy luggage to walk to hostel from train station. If anything,the way to the house: it is not very easy to find and I had to ask at another hotel to get the right direction. The shower facilities were a bit cramped and there was no soap in the dispenser. The showers are one floor below the bedrooms. It was not a real issue for. For some maybe. And the rooms can be noisy due to the wooden walls. Nothing. Pine old hotel = squeaky floors, you can hear other people, rooms very small (but expected from old chalet). made of wood and I consider noisy from stairs if there are many people but it's still very worth staying in a middle of mountain with beautiful view!!!. the bus comes only once in an hour(not in busy season). I have to wait for long. The sound proof is not good. Old pine chalet a little squeaky, walls are thin but it adds to the experience!. The house is located a little bit higher. If you get there by train you have to wait for the bus otherwise you have to take ur luggage walk a long way. Standard price is very high, we were lucky to book 1 night with discount. Nothing. nothing special. Location is a little hard to reach with luggage. Nothing. If bus route have more bus to go, there will be a good place to staying longer!! Every day we need before 18:44 catch the last one bus up to the mountain, not enough time to travel around... : ( !!. Nothing. Location is reachable by public transport or car so if you have small children then either take a car or be careful with timings of public transport. Walking up with a pram is nota good option!. - The car navigation system showed another point so that it's difficult to find out the hostel.(The staffs told me this in advance.) - Room with thin walls so that we can hear neighboor's snore - The last bus from the station to the hostel is 18:44. Hard to locate with gps if you travel by car. Hostel style not very comfortable. Price is not cheap.
