We booked an Aqua Romance room which has its own plunge pool, it was a great choice. The hotel is small, but for us, that was a real positive and all rooms have sea views over to Galle Fort. The location was a short tuk-tuk ride out of Unawatuna and Galle, close enough to visit the beaches and other restaurants, but far enough away to be quiet and relaxing. The beach, although not as deep and blue as Unawatuna, it is shallower, good for children. In the morning you can wade across the river mou.
all reviews » Excellent friendly staff with impeccable service. The manager, Reny was always on hand to answer questions and organise anything we needed. The Aqua Romance rooms are worth the small extra for a large terrace, jacuzzi and private pool. We booked with breakfast only but decided to change to include evening meals as the food and service was so good. The prices in the restaurant are very reasonable considering the standard of the food. The beach here is perfect and quiet - much nicer than Unawatun. Newly built place just on the beach shore, excellent food really loved it.. We asked for late check out and the manager Mr Sumit was kind enough to extend our check out from 11 to 2 pm.. Which was really great of him. We rented aqua romance suite with pool and it was really nice. They have a boat shuttle everyday at 10 am to jungle beach which is a must do for snorkeling and beach swimmers. Overall nice experience. Highly recommend Cocobay, it's design, attention to detail and friendly welcome. Reny the Manager personally takes time to welcome you and ensures you have a great stay. The food and cocktails are awesome especially overlooking the picture perfect location. A memorable stay and we will definitely be back. The staff were first class, extremely accomodating. The beach and swimming area were excelent. Ideally positioned between Galle and Unawatuna. Very well situated close to Galle with a nice beach and beautiful vieuw. Perfect room and service. Excellent food. Very kind staff. Well designed and run hotel. But nothing can beat the view and constant cooling sea breeze. the staff was caring,the room facilities were very good. It was was pretty nice but I think for value not great. Minor things - The area to the side of our room was a large sandy space that really needs some plantings to give the Aqua Romance rooms a little more privacy. Also the fence obscured the sea views a little for us in the Aqua Romance rooms. I can't think of anything that could have been done better!. The beach is kinda muddy as it is next to fishermen bay and port so not ideal for swimming, it kinda 20-30 min walk from the main unawatuna beach and activities area. So if you have a car then no problem, else you need to take a tuk tuk.. nothing. The water and sand are from the river entering the sea on the right. This doesn't change the overall good feeling. their were so manyyyyyyy small ants every where in the bath room, on the side table where tea kettle was palced,mosquitoes were present ,dividing bar in the private pool was rusted beach was too dirty at the edges. No dislikes. Only staying there for 5 nights...I wish it had been longer. Small territory Poor pool cues. Staff, Apartment , Food. Overpriced, stayed in other better hotels in the area for less. Breakfast was also not great though very generous portions. Too expensive for such a tiny hotel, Staff are good, but need to be told what to do. Asked for a bike , staff said they would organise , but nothing happened. Staff wake u up irrespective of do not disturb ,in morn for housekeeping, On check out day the harress you with calls for checking out , as they have sold ur room and chase u to get out . Reni the manager is oversmart ,and only caters to whites.he has no clue of hospitality. Overall i dont recomend this hotel if it can be called that.
