The family-run Monopol Hotel was built in the 19th century and was used as the local dance hall. It still has its original wooden balconies and typical central courtyard, filled with palm trees and plants. Hotel Monopol is a 5-minute walk from the sea and less than 15 minutes’ walk from Playa Jardin Beach. Just 150 metres away, the lively Plaza del Charco is full of bars and restaurants. The hotel also has its own restaurant, 2 bars and a spacious lounge in the courtyard.

This was one of the loveliest hotels I have ever stayed in. The location, family atmosphere, décor, food, pool, were all excellent, with very helpful, efficient and kind staff. It was small enough to feel homely, but grand enough to feel very special. I loved the atrium, with its palm trees and fresh flowers. The terrace was quiet and sunny and the food quite varied and well-presented. Good to have a ceiling fan in my room, too!.
all reviews » The location is great as its right in the centre of Peurto de la Cruz in a pedestrianlized area so no road traffic .All the staff are very friendly and although we only had bed and breakfast we found it good.The hotel put on traditional entertainment several nights a week. the hotel is ideally located, close to the centre of Puerto De La Cruz. The entrance lobby is an amazing space full of mature plants, and the special touches such as fresh flowers laid on the entrance steps always make us feel special we have stayed several times. Friendly atmosphere especially the bar staff. You could not get a better central position in the old town square. The atmosphere in the hotel has not changed for the last 20 years its so relaxing. Excellent restaurants all around. We would stay there again. Lovely old world hotel situated in a excellent location near the old port, on a pedestrian street, just meters from Charco Square and a short walk to the Bus station. Overall a very enjoyable stay. the hotel was fantastic the staff were very very helpfull I would not hesitate to able to stop at the monopol again but the next time would be longer this is A fairy tale hotel in A great location from david +joan. Atmosphere of the hotel was so friendly. A small problem we had was dealt with immediately. The relaxation areas are Ist class and so different.We loved it after moving rooms. The food was limited but well prepared. We liked the room with a sea view and balcony. The breakfast and evening meals were the best because there was plenty of choice at the buffet and you could eat as much as you wanted and all good quality too. The hotel can best be described as traditional in setting. The reception area is a very nice area to sit and relax. Although the rooms were basic the location was Central to everything. Staff excellent. Beautiful hotel in a traditional canarian style, if you want something with the character, definitey go for it. Food is adequate, the hotel is great value for money, nice location. Lovely flower decoation. This is our third stay stay at the Monopol -we find it very convenient and easy to use. The location near San Telmo and Charco Plaza was very convenient. The interior design of the hotel foyer was beautiful with balconies and plants and the doorstep strewn with fresh flowers each day. Hotel atmosphere and ambience were delightful, the room was clean and comfortable. Plenty of choice at breakfast. We will certainly stay again. The location is excellent. Hotel is very central in the main area of Puerta De La Cruz. Public areas were attractive. The patio. The balcony facing the street. The history of the hotel. Breakfast, Public areas are delighful. location central. The bed was a little sparse, but I'm being very fussy!. We found it all good and would definitely go again. The food, it was very basic and not to our liking. The pool was on the small side. Some rooms are better situated regarding balcony views and it seems pot luck is adopted when rooms are selected at booking. The views are excellent lower rooms miss out. The parking area was difficult to find as there is a complicated one way system and maps do not show this. The room was a bit on a small side for the three of us. As it was quite hot at night we had to have window open and as the hotel in the centre of the town you get the usual noise that goes with it but none of the above would have been a dealbreaker for us and if I were in the area again I would have definitely stay at he hotel again. I'd like to indicate some remoteness from main town beaches. We had to go a long distance to get one of them. And the others there aren't any complaints. Yes, parts of the bedroom and bathroom were a little tired, but they were clean. No down side to this Hotel. The food, breakfast is OK but dinner was nothing short of disgusting. Paster with a sauce, pork stew which looked like dog food and out of a tin, tinned veg and some kind of fish. If this food was dished up in prison there would be a riot. Lift doors close a little too quickly!. Nothing. Grumpy not very helpful receptionist. Twin bed instead of double. Having to struggle with luggage and park the caraway from the hotel. The rooms were a little dated. It was great watching the world go by from the balcony but very noisey into the early morning on the Saturday night. parking very difficult. None. Nothing. No minuses. breakfast was always cold. food could be btter. Can't park near the hotel. all Good. Leaving. nothing. lower ground dark grim nerver again. Worn-out Napery. Poor restaurant. Rather battered bathroom which needs a refurb and only provides small pieces of soap (no other toiletries). Pitiful pillows. The hotel is probably good value for money but feels a bit mean when it comes to spending money on the rooms. Very limited selection for food at breakfast and dinner. Only one type of fish and one meat at dinner. Very little fruit and no variety of breads at breakfast. Bar had no draught beer and closed very early. The breakfast room staff seemed very remote from the customers, no eye contact, no good morning. They began to clear away food on offer before the breakfast time was up. It's old charming hotel that needs renovations. The bathrooms require modernisation and the plumbing requires attention. The rooms are a bit tired and in need of a refurbishment and had a damp smell. The breakfast was not good. Not a lot of choice and the food was of poor quality. The first room we were given had a noisy construction site right outside our balcony doors (direct exit to the pool) from 8am to 6pm. It was a pool renovation. After asking to change the room we were offered one only for the second night of our stay. Both room were quite shabby. The second room had a fresh paint smell as it was painted right before we were transfered to it. Breakfast was mediocre. I am still wondering how this hotel received such a high avarage rating. Looks good on the outside,and public areas, but the average rooms in very poor condition. ie, broken tiles on walls and floor, paintwork chipped, fridge red hot, no air-conditioning,..... bathroom smelly and seriously out of date. Beds on wheels, and mattress worn out. Our first room..small, smelly, bathroom worse. Hotel nearly empty, yet given this room! For a typical tourist hotel, this one needs serious updating. Staff wonderful. we had to pay 6euros per day extra because we did not like our first room very cramped,we ask for a balcony,.
