Helpful staff. Comfortable surroundings and good food. The Lounge had a relaxing atmosphere with subtle background music. There were also places within the grounds of the hotel where we could relax or enjoy a fun game of mini golf. The position of the hotel meant that a short taxi ride could take us to the bus or train station as well as a taxi ride to the frontier crossing for Gibraltar.
all reviews » This was my favorite hotel during our two week visit to Spain. The hotel and grounds were beautiful. The picture on the web site is not very accurate. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast and dinner. Room was comfortable and quiet.Beautiful hotel with very comfy and big rooms. Very nice park and tennis court. Extremely good breakfast. Cleaning works fine. Nice warm swimming pool, plenty of car-parking spaces, four free internet computers. In all aspects, the stay at the Cristina measured up to our expectations. Wonderful service, food, pool and exquisite grounds and location. The best option for a stay in Algeciras.The breakfast that was included was amazing. An elegant attractive retreat set in its own extensive grounds giving the impression of an exclusive private villa for relaxation. My small, inexpensive single room for one night was spotless with heater/air conditioner and separate toilet/shower-room and was set in a first-floor loggia open to the skies outside the room. The hotel is decoratively attractive with bar, restaurant and lounge rooms.Although just across from the port the hotel and grounds were a peaceful haven for a relaxation. It is accessable to everything in Algeciras on foot. It is a stately old hotel with all the ammenities you need right on site. Excellent location. The English language skills of the staff were, at best, at the level of an average Finn or Swede. Of course, in Spain, an average person doesn't speak English at all, so it's understandable. The WLAN Internet access did not work in my room even though I had full signal according to my Mac.The only beer was San Miguel or Heineken, no local brew. The room fridge was empty.WLAN was not working at time. Restaurant closed at midnight.Everything was above par. The reception staff were not at all welcoming and were unhelpful and inefficient. We requested extra pillows 4 times (in both Spanish and English) before finally receiving them late on our second night.The breakfast was terrible! I know they aren't big on breakfast in Spain, but a 4 star hotel even in Spain should have a better breakfast. There was also a smell of pollution from the harbor. There was no refrigerator in the room. Baby cot was old and had a hole in the netting. For the quality of the Hotel we were disappointed in the quality of the food.Very basic food. The room was small, and so were the beds. The desk staff was not too friendly...left you standing. There should also be a small fridge in the room. Heating do only function when youe are in the room. No heating inbathroom.On the second night the restaurant could not offer a la carte menu. We were told the only food available was a set meal at 35 euros. This meal had no choices. At 9.30 in the evening ,after a couple of aperatives so unable to drive we were forced to accept this meal. We feel we should have been warned about this situation earlier in the day so we could have made alternative arrangements. In the first room we were placed in the a/c was broken and they werebooked full, we were forced to stick it out with a fan instead.We felt that the staff could have been a bit warmer and more friendly. The breakfast/dinner arrangement was not explained to us and we walked into town to get a lunch time meal on directions from the receptionist who neglected to mention that they had an excellent restaurant on site where we could have eaten. The furniture and decoration in the room are very old and made it less attractive. The city does not offer outstanding touristic sites.several of the facilities were not up and running (eg mini gym, sauna) - possibly too early in the season. I found the rooms where cold, we had to ask to warm up the sitting roomin order to enjoy the stay. Unfortunately when we arrived we were informed there was no space andtransferred to anothe hotel 5 mins drive away. The hotel was basic andour room smelt of smoke. The reina Christina allowed us to usefacilities but we left 2 unhappy clients, through no fault of yours.Food was poor and staff not overly helpful. The included meals were a bit like a canteen. Room furniture was very old, room was little bit smelly. Bathroom was bigger than bedroom. During weekend there was some big meeting going on so all Saturday night many people made a lot of noise on the corridors and nobody intervened. food in the bar, snack area was very poor and expensive - unlike the restaurant.Rather cool welcome at the reception on arrival;no explaination offered about the facilities offered by the hotel.The Heavy glass ceiling of the ballroom partially collapsed on to the dance floor during breakfast.No injuries through good fortune;despite the warning of water leeking through ceiling the previous afternoon.This glass was very heavy gauge and would have been potentailly fatal. The staff was a bit passive.Would have expected iron, hairdryer and teamaking facilities in a 4* hotel. The bar services and no minibar in the room.
