Umlani Bushcamp is a classic African safari camp in Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, part of Greater Kruger National Park. Game drives, bush walks and meals are included in the rate. Guests sleep in traditional African reed and thatch huts created using local Shangaan tribal architecture. Umlani Bushcamp’s huts offers an en suite bathroom with open-air shower, mosquito netting over each bed and crisp white linens. Candle lanterns are used for evening light. Umlani’s rangers take guests on daily game drives in open Land Rovers. Guests can also enjoy guided bush walks with Umlani’s experience trackers. Pre-dinner drinks are offered each evening around the fire in the traditional boma. Dinner is then served in the candlelit dining room, or out in the open riverbed on a table surrounded by lanterns. Nelspruit Airport is a 2.5 hours’ drive from Umlani Bushcamp.

What people say

Everything! - No electricity so peace and quiet apart from nature. Game drives amazing - really close to wildlife. Food was good but not excellent. Ethos of the camp and keeping in harmony with wildlife important. Being in the middle of wildlife and lot of activities possible like gamedrives, treehut and walks. Slightly difficult drive in along unsealed road. Think it would be better that staff asks visitors what they would like to do and not other way around. This avoids misunderstandings.

Travelling information

From Johannesburg -Get onto the N12 highway towards Witbank. -This eventually joins the N4 highway at Witbank. -Take left off ramp and pass through the town of Belfast. -Follow road signs turning right onto the R540 to Dullstroom. -Follow the signs to Lydenburg. -At the T-junction turn left. -Pass through the town of Lydenburg. -Turn left onto the R36 towards Ohrigstad. -Pass through the town of Ohrigstad. -Continue on the R36 to Hoedspruit. -Pass through the mountainous region and the Strydom Tunnel. -Pass through the small town of Hoedspruit and at the 2nd four way stop turn right onto the R40 towards Klaserie and Acornhoek. -After 7km turn left onto the Timbavati Road. -After 19km of tar road cross the Klaserie River Bridge. -After the bridge the road becomes a dirt road. -Travel for another 10km. -Once through the main gate, after approx. 2 km, you will find the UMLANI sign on your left on a large concrete block Follow the small wooden signs "UMLANI" to the camp.
