The personal experience we had as a family was beyond words. It was my little princess of 9years first stay at a Lodge. And princess is exactly what she experienced with our stay at Abalone Lodge, Knysna, South Africa. The Team at Abalone Lodge arranged for a personalised welcome letter addressed to her, as well as the most amazing cupcakes and sparkling grape juice in the fridge, just for her!!! all reviews » The chalets were well appointed, lovely spa bath, bed very comfortable, everything needed for a meal if one wanted to cook - so cheap to eat out, no need to cook at home. I would definitely stay again if returned to S.Africa. Very cosy and clean and the facilities and appliances were in good order and not old and run down. The units inside and out are well maintained and it's peaceful with nice views. Centrally situated. The cottage itself is really cute and has a great ambience - the view is spectacular, andI loved the wooden interior... and of course the large jacuzzi bath is an absolute delight!. The accomodation looked exactly like advertized on-line. It was a good pick for winter as the rooms felt nice an cosy and was easy to warm up with the provided heater. The place was in the stunning area of Knysna with loads to do and see. The pool was nice and the lodges were clean and spacious and well kitted out. Loved it. The noise from the next door chalet as they are laid out as main family chalet in the centre, with smaller ( suitable for single or double occupancy ) either side. So wooden stairs etc can be noisy for neighbours. The first night I used the bath the water was very dirty afterwards. Think the jets might not have been used for a while and that dirt accumulated inside. Might have to make sure that it's always clean. I would've preferred if the toilet was not separate from the bath, but that is really minor. The noise levels from the cottages next to ours were a bit bothersome. The bathtub was large and impressive, however there was virtually no water pressure. We ended up filling the tub using pots and hot water from the kitchen. Some units are semi detached so could get a bit noisey if the neighbors are loud although personally I dont have a problem with that. During sunset the cottage was warmed by the sun. Can imagine that during summertime this might get a bit too hot. There is a fan though.. the attitude of the young lady. Nothing at all. -No wifi -there was a tub, but it took forever to fill up -no stand-up shower -no air conditioning. Value for the dollar but not for the cents. Costs for the simplest things. We were two adults staying for four days and were given four tea bags and for coffee packs for our stay - about what I would expect on a daily basis. No extra soap or towels. Wi-fi was an extra cost and didn't reach our cabin. Why be so cheap with the incidentals?. The couch could of been better. No gate at entrance didn't feel very secure.Hair dryer but no plug that fitted it. The bedroom is on the 2nd floor and for us was not that easy to go up and down. This is perfect for a younger couple. They do have a room on the main floor so make sure to ask for. In our case it was dirty so it was lock. We only stay one night. Mould around spa bath. Not enough counter-top space in kitchen to use the two-plate stove provided without difficulty. no shower. No room number on the door. Unlit stairway. too hot in summer,I would recommend air conditioners. There were no food storage containers with lids in the kitchen. Difficulty to have Internet. Nothing. Carrying luggage up the stairs. The refrigerator was noisy and close to the bed. Mentioned this, but unfortenately this couldnt be fixed in time. I had practically no contacto with the staff. A bit unipersonal. bedroom is small and bathroom huge in comparison it was cold at night and there were no extra blankets no hair dryer no free wifi. Brown water. No laundry facilities. The hair dryer provided did not fit any receptacles, so could not be used. No facility to check out before the office opens. We had to leave early and by 8am decided to leave the keys in the unit and go as no staff was available. Lodge was rather gloomy and very hot (air con needed). For a self-catering place, the kitchen area and workspace were very dark and extremely small. The bathroom really needs a proper shower. Hot water problems on the first night, which were fixed the next day. it was not soo bad. No wi-fi and not the best view like it shows online. Street noise loud; no internet; staff not very helpfull. The service was terrible. The furnishing were not what we expected and cheap, the accommodation was not properly Stocked. And seriously who puts 1ply toilet paper in their "lodge". Definitely not worth their raiting.
