Location was great, we have stayed in Queenstown central previously and noise (traffic, patrons and public) can be an issue. The property at Hilton was well soundproofed. The one bred apartment we had was so well equipped. We found it ideal for our needs in every way. The location from a scenic point if view was great. The property was easily to access and exit when moving about. Staff were all great! They went out of their way to be helpful, especially the guy in the conv. store on site. 2.
all reviews » The staff were all very friendly. The room was spacious, clean, beautifully appointed. The bathroom was also big and had a large bath tub. The property is right on the lake so it has gorgeous views and is very peaceful. The pool and spa were lovely and just what was needed after walking the Milford Sound track. Is a good 15 minute drive from Queenstown so it is a good idea to hire a car. The taxi prices were exorbitant (ie $50 one way), the water taxi was much cheaper but only ran at certain ti. We have stayed at hotels and paid the same rate before but I have to say that we have never been pampered and had such great service as we have had during our four night stay. The setting and the view is absolutely superb. We found the Wakatipu Grill Restuarant brilliant enough not to venture into the town for dinner. Queenstown is awesome and we tried to squeeze in as much as we could including a trip to Milford Sound but we still have to try the gondola so we will be back. The Hilton is absolutely immaculate. Staff were wonderful -incredibly hospitable and ready to help out with anything you need. The location (just a short drive out of town) is PERFECT to come back to after a busy day skiing or sightseeing, for peace and quiet and total relaxation. Would thoroughly recommend the "relaxation room" with its private spa pool on the deck, looking out to the lake and mountains. Everything was just great and what we would have expected with the name Hilton! The staff in the restaurants from Stacks to the fine dining one including breakfast there were amazing and couldn't do enough to help us-nothing was too much bother when asked for something a bit different. We got a very good price through letsbookhotel.com so for us it was very reasonable priced. The rooms are very spacious and well set out. The beds and pillows are very comfortable and the best we have come across. Attention to detail of the interior of the bedrooms was excellent. The hotel is situated in a beautiful spot, close to the airport and only a short drive to the center of town, interesting architecture, great art on the walls, good views from the rooms, excellent amenities in the rooms ...but most of all - the welcoming and efficient staff. The room was beautiful--a suite with a fireplace and huge bathroom. The staff was very helpful. The linens and bed were very comfortable. The location was well suited to our travel plans--driving to Millford Sound and 5 minutes from the airport. The accommodation and facilities were superb. A car is essential due to the position of the hotel. There was nothing to dislike. Restaurant VERY expensive. Only 1 bar of soap. the hotel is laid out in a unique way. I had trouble finding our room. I couldn't figure out how to turn on the towel bar for heating. Unhelpful, unfriendly bus driver on courtesy $8 bus into town. Everyone else provided wonderful, friendly helpful service, but the driver I believe his name was "Sanjeep?" possibly an Indian gentleman was actually very rude. There was nothing we disliked. It would have been nice if the bar near reception was open just for a casual drink/ coffee. Location is out of town but that is easily fixed with a hire car. Too far from Qeenstown, coffee shop a rip off, $6 for one coffee! Only went there once, not everyone who stays at the Hilton has a large budget!. That I had to leave after one day. Room 210 has a horrible smell coming from the floor drain....had to throw a towell over it. Only smelt it in the morning and forgot to tell the girl at reception. A little further out of town than we hoped. The water taxi service is great but only runs until 10pm. No bench/cabinet space in bathroom (1 bed apartment), so nowhere to put my toiletries. Confusing complex when first arriving, signage is lacking or does not stand out as to where to park & get to reception. The grill was closed on mondays and tuesday the nights we happen to be there and the noodle bar was also shut. The complex was poorly signposted from the main road and also drove past the reception which was also poorly sign posted. After a long drive from lake tekapo on our first stay we found the receptionist rather brusque and very unhelpful in explaining the lay out of the complex, other receptionists were very helpful and friendly. location was an issue but was more than compensated for by newness,style, quality and sheer luxury of the hotel room and facilities of pool, gym steam and sauna rm. Loud aircom that we compared to a street-cleaner parked outside our window,continuously going. The hotel is about 15 minutes drive from the centre of Queenstown so best to have your own transport. I had to ring and ask to have my room serviced, this was at 3.30pm after I had been out all day. Very disappointing. Exorbitant prices for local wine as listed on the Dining-In Menu. Expect to pay more...but these were outrageous. We went to the 'pub' for dinner and couldn't believe there was only one Chrdonnay available by the glass and even the waiter agreed that it was not a good one. Would have appreciated more choice there. Also did not appreciate the 1.5 percent surcharge on our account for paying by credit card (not only Amex but also Visa! ). Thought this was totally ridiculous in a tourist orientated market. A bit too far from Queenstown but there is bars and restaurants next to the hotel which were really good. 1)The darkness of the decor - virtually all walls were very dark and gave a gloomy feel 2) The lack of an inviting lounge area with authentic log fire as you would expect and look forward to in an alpine area 3) Our room wasn't serviced until 4pm on first day and after midday on second day 4) The reception staff seemed inexperienced and lacking in knowledge about facilities. There were no negative features. A bit of a distance out of Queenstown (closer to Kelvin Heights) but fine if you have a car!. It was a bit too far from main Queens town. It would be better if the water taxi went later than 9pm or there was some sort of shuttle that went later. Taxi costs are very prohibitive(about $40) from hotel to main Queenstown area. Meal at the grill was disappointing. A gourmet chef with better presentation skills is what that restaurant needs.Mini bar in suite was not stocked. Breakfast was well below standard and seemed to had been reheated or over cooked, in the book it said that the cooked breakfast included the continental and it didn't! And coffee arrived in takeaway cups. Also the jug was full of tap water you could smell the chlorine. Very below the standard in what we were expecting. The pool is too small. The only problem we had, and it was small,our tea, coffee and milk wasn't replaced for the next day and our used cups were not replaced with clean cups. Breakfast dishes were left outside the door all day. The stacks bar was a bit pricey. Location was a bit far from Queenstown, but this is a small point as they offered water taxi to Queenstown, and what better way to go!.
