We stayed at The Grange on the last night of our annual visit home to NZ to "re-charge of the old batteries". We have always previously stayed close to the airport but this time around decided to try The Grange ..... and so pleased we did. Whilst sad to see all the devastation, it was really good to be right in the City Centre and to experience at first hand what the people of ChCh are having to deal with and also to see all the efforts that are being put into resurrecting this beautiful City.
all reviews » Absolutely gorgeous renovated old building with old world charm. The decor and attention to detail in matching new with old was excellent. Whilst the room was not exceptionally spacious, it was well appointed and in sparkling condition. The bathroom was huge with both a spa bath and a separate shower. Breakfast was served in a common dining room by attentive staff who cooked your order personally in the adjacent kitchen. Location just on the edge of the city centre is perfect. CBD in walking di. The staff met us at the door and were accommodating in every way. The location was perfect for walking around the city and getting to the Canterbury museum, a real gem. Our room was beautifully appointed, and the breakfasts that we had made to order were delicious. They helped us with tour suggestions, restaurants and even made transportation arrangements for the railway stn. For the morning we left. We enjoyed every minute in Christchurch thanks to them. We had a large, comfortable room with a very comfortable bed. There was a severe storm the night we were there but we were so snug we barely noticed it. The breakfast of cereal, fruit, toast, bacon and eggs and espresso coffee was also well up to standard. The staff were friendly and efficient throughout our stay. The location was close to the City Centre (what's left of it) and there were several good restaurants within walking distance. This is a quaint and quiet B&B Hotel conveniently located in downtown Christchurch. The staff was friendly and helpful as soon as we arrived (after hours). We stayed in the main house and our room had its on balcony and en suite. It was comfortable and roomy. The café had an excellent breakfast. It had a cosy parlour and free Wifi. It was an enjoyable stay! Thanks!. A really nice place to stay and well located for the Botanic garden and if you wish to see, the city. Would say this was what you may expect for the money, lovely house well done up and decorated in a costly style, not inexpensive, not great but very very nice and no complaints. Good location, not much of a view from the windows. All in all recommendable. Lights came on as you came inside building. Bedrooms were attractive and in a coordinated style or theme. Bathroom white & spotless. Chairs to sit on. Good ceiling height. Helpful and sensible staff. Local maps offered. Eating suggestions were good. Transport arranged and staff coordinated early breakfast. There to see us depart. The Grange is a lovely old house, solidly built (earthquake specifications), with super nice rooms and comfy in all aspects, very nice breakfast included and friendly owner and staff. It is centrally located within walking distance of downtown and all bus stops access to anything in Christchurch. The owners did an excellent job of creating a pleasing environment with a mix of antiques and modern decor with great attention to detail. The room we stayed in was large and comfortable. I loved having china teacups in our room for tea or coffee The breakfast was also wonderful. The owner and staff were wonderful, very accommodating of our gluten-intolerance problem and very helpful regarding travel about the area questions. They provided an excellent breakfast each morning; you couldn't ask for more!! They even washed and dried our clothes. Excellent, attentive staff and lovely environment close to all the highlights of Christchurch. The very well appointed room and the old style comfort of the room and lounge area, the breakfast was excellent and all the staff are happy and helpfull. We would stay again next time we are in Christchurch but for more than one night. Hotel is perfect. Be aware that the centre of Christchurch is in a tragic state with all of the town centre closed due to the earthquake, so normal facilities like restaurants and shops are very limited. It is such a shame. Great staff very hospitable and friendly, I found them helpful and willing to go.that extra mile. Nothing.springs to mind, maybe the jam bring served in ramekins instead of the foil packs would add a nicer touch maybe?. Nothing. Soap and shampoo holders in the shower. Soap holder over hand basin. I prefer a cake of soap any day. Tea cups went with it being a boutique B & B but they were too small. A mug would have make it perfect. Christchurch has had it heart and soul ripped out of the city centre....It felt like a ghost town. It was sad and depressing. I would recommend other travellers wait a while longer so it gives the city a chance to rebuild. Nothing to do with the accommodation but found the city of Christchurch very depressing with all the restructuring still going on after the earthquakes in 2010 and 2011. Many tourist areas are still fenced off. No tea-towel in the room. That is being really "picky" and was hardly a big issue. Stairs and 3 suitcases to travel with. Nothing. All was good. Nothing!. Not much except that the city is still recovering but i very much admire the courage of the people who live there. Christchurch city centre is still very much 'under construction' post 22Feb11 quake and therefore city centre not got huge amount to offer visitor. Nothing at all. Absolutely nothing to fault . Poor Christchurch is still very broken, quite eerie but signs of hope. Nothing. Having to leave. :-(. Vintage tea cups cracked. Nothing about The Grange, Finding restaurants nearby was difficult at the weekend.
