Stayed here to join up with my contiki tour. I appreciated the genuine friendliness of the staff, the room was pristine, comfortable and will stay here again. Stayed on the way over and on the way back.do it guys and dolls you wont be dissappointed. Location. Its the only one currently open in the centre of Christchurch. Staff were a mixed bunch, some gave great service but were badly let down by check out staff who were happy to carry on a private conversation whilst checking me out.
all reviews » It was centrally located right next to some of the newly rebuilt areas which had a market type area nearby and a few cafes. It was clean and comfortable and a reasonable price for the central location. Highly efficient service. The staff on arrival was very understanding of our need,he willingly accepted our situation and doing so made our stay better,extending our stay for 2 hrs. More than you would pay in Auckland, and parking is really not an issue in Christchurch now with so many building sites to park on. Hint, don't opt for Ibis parking. Rate was high too, but I think this probably reflects accommodation space in Christchurch. The walls were a bit thin so the noise from the corridor carried through into the room. The rooms were a bit small but not so much it was uncomfortable. A regular city based hotel really. Our only disappointment was that, when checking in, we were told we were given a room with a view. This turned out to be the blank wall of the building right outside our window. As we didn't spend a lot of time in the room it didn't bother us a lot but others may not be so pleased. No dislikes from our experience . The sad state of Christchurch city centre, with the Ibis virtually marooned and isolated. Hopefully other buildings in the next few years will improve this situation and give the Ibis some neighbours. The room & bathroom was a little small. Main part of restaurant was full, so we had to dine on balcony, enclosed by plastic screens. Was ok for our stay , but would not have liked to spend a long time out there. Movement of the building from earth works next door. Should have been warned about this. In a very bad area location as it was hard to get to due to the city streets being closed plus I paid a deposit with my credit card which was supposed to be returned on checkout I am still waiting over a week later I have just had to fill out a dispute form with my bank. 1.The breakfast is not a good value 2.In-room internet service is not a good value. 3. "Free" wi-fi is very limiting 4. despite repeated staff assurances the previous evening that A taxi would be waiting for us at 5 A.M. the next morning, it was not, and we had to wait over 15 minutes for A taxi to the airport. Too close to the red zone, bit I guess that will change in a few years once christchurch gets back on its feet. Bit expensive for what you get Room a bit cluttered and cramped. small hanging space. There was a chocolate piece under the bed. Rooms very small, no aspect No porter service and entry open to elements, rain etc. Noisy neighbours..my sleep was disturbed both nights and early mornings ggggrrrrr. With the earthquake the area is under re-construction which takes the appeal away from the Hotel. I was not impressed with the gluten free options at dinner, the entertainment guide had options in it that were not gluten free in the end and the waitress was not very helpful. View from room. Trying to locate the Hotel was very difficult in current situation with road closures etc and would suggest placings details on how to access. Drink prices. The pillows, too low. Food from kitchen - quality low Quality of bedding low. I really do feel for the Christchurch situation. We are from Australia and we were shocked to see the CBD in such a state. I guess the road closures were the bit we did not like it was hard to get too but that is all really. There was long black hairs in the shower room not nice. room was cramped, off sreet parking charge for a motorcycle was exorbitant. All was good, but felt sorry for Christchurch, whichis very affected by the earthquake. Breakfast was like cheap school dinners and too expensive given the quality. Better off spending your money in a cafe. Paying $25.00 per night for secure parking in the basement! Never before have I had to pay for parking in a hotel I have been staying in and find this unacceptable. Should provide wifi in longer hours. Would not choose a room with 2 double beds as room was crowded. Only one bedside table and lamp which was between the two beds. A couple would need to sleep in separate beds to be able to use. Staff didn't seem to know much about the area. Staff admitted that there were no safety instructions in the rooms re how to respond to an earthquake. Very limited leisure, bar restaurant and lounge facilities. No baths. Shower nozzle functioned poorly. Really expensive in comparison to other nz city hotels, and therefore poor value for money. Rather expensive at 165. and no free wifi. A bit expensive for a small room and an odd shower. It is on the edge of the earthquake devastation. The room I booked was horrible, very cluttered with two big beds and no room to move. I moved to the top floor where the room was the same size but only one bed so room to move about. For this I had to pay extra. Paying for car parking. Very poor breakfast which was expensive. The dinner lacked any flair and quite expensive. The cost of internet was extremely high. Check in was a mess. Breakfast over priced and poor selection. Staff were a bit off hand only one the man who made my coffee was of the standard you would expect. No bath mat is a safety hazard as the floor was slippery. Not cheap for basic, very small busget accomadation. They didnt seem happy that the booking was made thru booking .com was a problem getting a tax invoice until I asked for the manager.
