The comfort and silence after all the traveling. The staff at Van der Valk Hotel Leiden was wonderful and very helpful.The hotel was very nice and very clean. The bar and restaurant (twoseparate facilities) were very nice as well and a nice addition. Thelocation on the canal was beautiful!. The rooms was very comfortable. A whirlpool as well as a shower in the bathroom. A nice selection on the dinner menu.

There should have been an insect screen on the window or an anti-mosquito plug in the room. One of the double beds (matras) was worn out.the restaurant - not good. no food for children. The only little negative thing, we found the restaurant quite expensive. The food was good ( nothing to say about the quality of the food ) , but it was quite expensive.No, but we would have liked tea/coffee making facilities in the room and a fridge so we could keep our drinks cold. Behaviour when settling the bill; it was apparently difficult to split abill with one day with breakfast and the other without. Door to hallways not well insulated, thus hallway traffic is very noticeable. The music in the bar and the restaurant was too loud and unpleasant thus I opted not to use these facilities. Ongoing construction resulting in some early morning noise. The hotel was under construction. The desk personnel appeared to be in training as consulting someone was normal procedure. One room faced a very busy street. The other room was below ground level with no view. Restaurant not up to standard. Rooms do not incorporate fridges as hotel booklet infers. The block where the rooms are housed is totally different from the main hotel.There was a strong smell of cigarettes in the room when I arrived that remained despite opening the window. There was no fridge in the room and the hotel rooms are seperate to the main hotel as there is some building work going on. Plus it is not in Leiden but a few miles outside the city centre.The web site was badly inacurate. the description was totally out of date, with construction of a hotel replacing the hotel advertised on the web site. The location on the web, 0 km from town center was untrue. NO FRIDGE OR TEAMAKING FACILITIES IN THE ROOM.The door to the balcony coudln't lock and were not repaired though we complained about it. The diner was not so well, less for rather much money. What we get on our dish was not complete according to the menu carte. When we replied about this, nothing was done towards us; the garcon told us that he mentioned it at the kitchen.bar opening times/no options to eat late. The room was almost in a basement, very close to a street with heavy traffic. To little rest.Breakfast service did not begin untiill 8am - very very lte if one has mornign engagements!. they lack in minor deails that in sum anoys the user. Really expensive internet, lack of thermal control in the rooms, porblems with the bathroom, no detail cleaning in the rooms, a little noisy ...I travelled from London for an overnight trip and had to work in my room. I was told I could not have room service because the restaurant was busy, in fact I was advised to go to the restaurant across the road if I was hungry. It made me feel the hotel was greatly under staffed. And as there was no mini bar or any other form of refreshment in my room I was forced to buy some water from a machine. Despite the many available rooms with a balcony and view we were allocated a below ground, dark and dismal room by the car park. We were really disappointed especially after reading that the hotel had undergone major renovations and was in a prime location overlooking the river.

Follow Wassenaar/ Leiden, A44 and take exit number 9, Leiden Zuid. You will see Hotel Het Haagsche Schouw straight away.

A4 Coming from direction Rotterdam or Utrecht:

Follow Leiden/ Amsterdam on A4 and take the exit Leiden/ Zoeterwoudedorp. After taking this exit, go left into direction Voorschoten.
Go straight and take the fourth traffic lights to the right. Go straight ahead and at the end of the road turn to the left. Follow the direction Stevenshof. Over the bridge you will see us on your right side.

A4 Coming from direction Amsterdam:

Follow direction Leiden West ( A44 ). Take exit number 8, Leiden/ Katwijk/ Valkenburg. At this exit turn to the left at the traffic lights.
Take the second traffic lights to the right. Go straight ahead and over the bridge. You will see us at your right side.

Public Transportation:
Take Bus 43 from Central Station Leiden, direction Den Haag. Withint 10 minutes you will be at our hotel.
