The hostel staff were really amazing, they are always willing to answer your concerns in a friendly manner. The location is also splendid as it located right in the heart of Amsterdam and most of the touristic site and landmarks are within walking distance. Hostel Orfeo is amazing?? The friendly staff were fantastic and helped me with my bags up the stairs. Great coffee always on. Beds very comfortable and showers great. I will return again so thanks guys for a great first experience.All the best.

The hostel is right in the middle of the night-life in Amsterdam and quite close to most of the important sight-seeing places. If you are looking for just a place to sleep its ok, but don't expect more. The location, near Leidseplein, is really good for going out at night. The lounge is cool to hang out. Where was Spiderman ?. steps are killing bed are very bad to sleep. No cookers in the kitchen, only microwave and toasters. ⋅ It gets pretty noisy in the lobby after midnight, and all the noise was audible in a room on 2nd floor. ⋅ The room I've seen is pretty small and congested, even though there's no lockers, or a closet, or a table. ⋅ Breakfast is poor. Price. Room are really small and "clean" is not the right word to define the hostel. You can not access to WiFi from the rooms and the breakfast consist of only coffee-butter-jam. There is a night club on the next door, you are going to feel the beats (and, whenever someone opens the door, the really loud music) until maybe 4am, maybe even more. I'd say avoid it if you want to rest and relax. The kitchen closed at 10pm if I'm not mistaken. Finally, I booked a 4-bed room but when I arrived I was told we would be staying in a 6-bed room with shared bathroom. Noone could give me a reason for this. It was so noisy that we had to use earplugs and even then it was still super loud. Also they take your credit card details on line to secure your booking but once you arrive they demand you pay cash. We argued the pint and managed to be able to pay on credit but it was a fight and then he wanted to charge my card again for the deposit in cash we had left the night before. The room was very depressive and not very clean. No lockers in the room. Had to carry around my valuables with me when I go around the city. To pay 3 euros to Let my bag in luggage room, check out at 10 a.m., the maitress is to thin and the whole hostel is completly dirty and smells bad. Breakfast was too bad. I wish the price could be cheaper instead of that breakfast. I have stayed on the last floor. The room was damp and It wasn't so comfortable. The bathroom and the rooms are dirty and bad smell. Unhelpful receptionist from Easter Europe who was very rude, thinking he owns the place and is doing a favour if staying at the youth hostel. narrow and steep staircase which was dangerous ultra small toilet and bathroom dirty bed. Just a feral backpackers. "Breakfast included"was a bit of bread, a toaster and coffee. Really expensive for the minimum service, comfort and property. Staff was hardly up to the task. One takes back what the other promises. All in all a bad experience, impossible to get a receipt for the stay. Very unflexible hotel, filthy, worn down, moldy smell everywhere. Loud noise all night, windows could not be closed and beds were uncomfy. The confirmation email said I could pay by credit card and they refused to accept credit card payment. I was forced to get cash which was a big problem for me. The staff was rude. The room was in very poor condition and in my opinion misrepresented. I was very disappointed and would strongly recommend to anyone never to stay there.

Information about the area

Hotel Orfeo is very centrally located and is close to the bars, discos and saunas. The Orfeo is also within a short walk to Amsterdam's major art museums: the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh museum, and the Stedelijk museum. Guests can also find the Holland Casino, the City Theater (where first run movies play), and other smaller cinemas nearby. There is also Vondel Park, the Jordaan and many other picturesque neighborhoods also with in walking distance.

Travelling information

Once you get to Schiphol Airport you can either take a taxi directly to us (tell the driver that the street is near the Leidseplein) or you can take a train to Amsterdam Centraal Station.
From Centraal Station you can take trams 1, 2, or 5 to Prinsengracht. From Prinsengracht make a left once you step off the tram (the canal should be on your left). Then, take the first right which is Leidsekruisstraat.
