If you can get past the rather naff horse theme, this is a decent hotel for the price. We paid £380 for 3 nights during (uk) half term and at short notice which isn’t bad for Amsterdam and have no complaints. The staff were helpful and efficient. The rooms are simple, clean, modern and comfortable if a little small and with limited views/daylight but better than many others we have stayed in. It’s in a very convenient location for the usual tourist stuff such as the Rijksmuseum and Leidseplien.
all reviews » I liked the location,it is just a two minutes walk to Leidseplein where there are many restaurants, shops of all kind... from there you can reach very easy to the other main attractions: Dam Square, Rembrandtplein, Red Light District etc. I liked the room ...we were four girls and we took the four persons room which was very big, clean and comfortable. there were free coffees, cappuccinos, tea and the staff was really friendly. we all think it was a perfect choice. Nice location just outside a busy square on the edge on the city center. Museums quarter is just 5 mins. Off. Almost all the places you would want to visit in Amsterdam are within 10-20 minutes walk. Clean. Transportation is just around the corner. Relatively well priced, compared to others nearby (well, for whatever the reason any hotel in Amsterdam costs twice the same as in any other European city). This is a very strong 3 star hotel and is a good value. Amsterdam in the summer months isn't cheap and unless you want to stay by Schipol, you're going to pay for it. This is not a fancy hotel but it doesn't try to be. I paid about 100 euros a night and it was clean, quiet and close to just about everything you'd want to see. The #1 tram is 1/2 block away. The room was spacious and clean. I liked the idea of the picture of the horse wall - gives the room a different look. The beds were very comfortable. The shower was spacious too. The hotel had also great access to wifi. Very close to the city, so very convenient The manager was excellent. Very nice gentleman, I would definitely come again. We had a problem with the AC in our room so we were freezing . As soon as we told them they moved us to another room which was more spacious so it was like an upgrade. The staff was really helpful and the bed was huge and very comfortable. Also the location is very central.I was very happy with this hotel the 3 nights we stayed there. Every thing was perfect. The reception staff were helpful especially Sabrine.The room was very big compared to other even 4 stars hotels in Amsterdam. The hotel is well placed near Vondel park & Hard rock cafe with alot of public transportations to dam square & connexxion bus no. 197 direct to the airport. We booked our room at 15:00 and in 10 minuts we went there. I thought that the room wouldn't be ready but on the contrary; it was thanks to the friendly staff at the reception who gave us even a map of the city. Furthermore u get all the facilities in your room to make coffe and tea ( as much as you want). I have been in Amsterdam many times. This is the best hotel i have been living on. The hotel was very clean, the same with the rooms. And the staff that worked there was one of a kind. I will definetly use this hotel agian. Thanks for the best stay in Amsterdam Iron Horse. We stayed in the lovely family room (4 very comfortable single beds) on the top floor, 64 steps (no lift). Large, light, airy, well appointed room with very good bathroom. Great location and truly helpful & friendly staff. Would definitely recommend. The staff at the hotel were all very friendly and helpful. The room was newly renovated, quiet and very clean. The location was a short walk to the major museums and tram lines. It was easy to get to on the 197 bus from the airport. Top Location! 15 minutes to the center walking, the famous "I amsterdam" is 5 minutes away. We had a quiet room, nobody bothered us. 24 hours a day reception service. Very nice people at the reception. The hotel is conveniently located within a walking distance from the downtown, There is free Wi-Fi in the rooms & a coffee machine near the reception. Personnel was friendly & assisting. We stayed here for 2 nights and EVERYTHING of the hotel is very good (we do not use the breakfast). Only one thing you have to concern is the location, not in the heart of the city. We had a twin deluxe bedroom, very clean, spacious enough, with a big and clean bathroom. We appreciated the heating system because the weather was cold during our stay. We had a great stay, great location next to leidseplein and a lot of attraction within walking distance, a bus to the airport is also very close and so are the trams. The Hotel which was opened on March 2012 is near Leidseplein and supermarket is near by.The room is clean,simple. The breakfast is very basic buffet but just 7'50u. Really good location for town centre. Kids really liked the free hot chocolate machine and the horse pictures. Simple no fuss service. Proprietor was helpful. The hotel was really clean. Heating thermostat didn't work at all. It was basically just "on" and "off" no matter if you set 25 degrees or 5. It was way too hot with this thing "on" and quickly got too cold with the same off. Hope this was just a malfunction in one of the rooms rather than a general practice. Otherwise - hotel management has to do something with that, it's a shame for otherwise almost a flawless place. The bed was two twin beds pushed together which tended to separate as the night went on. Some sort of strapping system would cure the problem. Although the manager provided me with great customer service, his staff were quite poorly trained, they did not have great knowledge about information asked and had to always refer back to the manager. The main light in the room did not work. The TV also did not have a good resolution. Ladders with no elevators & nobody to hold your bags. No refrigrator in the room. But who cares about these trivial minors?. Everything was perfect, maybe it'd be better if the room would have a mini fridge. The breakfest is very expensive ( 7,50 euro) And its only bread, juice and bagels. There is no elevator, so that it's a bit dificult to carry a little child up & down the stairs. This is a minor disappointment for young & energetic people. Maybe the room is not large, we only have one 27" luggage, so it is ok for us. The heating system was quite noisy. No minibar in the rooms. Everything else was excellent. Staff are good people.Some of them are really helpful,but some of them are lack of knowledge of sightseeing. Breakfast waitress was a bit grumpy and unwelcoming. I didn´t like that breakfast was not included : (. Cost of the breakfast was not included in the room price. A fridge in the rom would be very useful. Windows don't open, but you can live without it thanks to air conditionning. The girl in the dining room was downright unfriendly and did not show any service, had the television on with loud noise and would not turn off had to turn off though, and then she got fighting mad. Sad for the hotel that is otherwise good service and friendliness. No elevator. The room was internal and that whole floor was extremely hot due to the skylights in the central atrium. Even with the air-con on full the room was uncomfortably warm. Wifi signal was also a bit patchy. maybe the location but still it was close to the leidseplein. N/a there is no lift but this was not a problem for us... Good excersize and triple room plenty big enough. Insufficient storage space, shelves, etc. for clothing. Mediocre breakfast. Wi-fi worked well when available, but at many times we could not get a signal. Room windows do not open ... some rooms have very small windows. Can't think of any problems. the Chinese receptionist. Nothing major but I would prefer to have openable windows in the room rather than relying on the air-conditioning. I was very-very inconvenienced because the hotel has blocked the total amount of my booking for nearly two weeks. The reason I chose letsbookhotel.com in the first place was because I didn't have much financial flexibility to pay in advance. In the end, I had the amount blocked when I booked the room, then I had to pay for the room when I arrived and the blocked amount only returned the week after I came back. That wasn't mentioned when I was booking the room and inconvenienced me a lot. Location is a bit far if you are with kids to places to visit frequently. Try to get something near Dam square. Nothing we didn't like. The window was facing internal area with no access to the sky. There were sounds of flowing water from my neighbours. the bathroom smelled a little bit; no "do not disturb" sign; wifi was somewhat ok but some minor problems and drop-outs occured. It was a little bit cold. steep stairs No lift. no lift.
