Fresh squeezed orange juice @ 2:00 a.m., staff who were extremely friendly, and consistently went beyon the call of duty. -- the location was very handy - easy to find. The free koffie and free internet were very welcome. We were able to come in 3 hrs before regular check-in time. The staff was too polite to criticize my bad Dutch !

If you didn't have those steep stairs, you wouldn't know you were in Amsterdam, You'd just think you got a reasonable booking in Heaven!

The room was very clean and comfortable. The location was fantastic, the staff friendly and helpful. It had a good vibe and was modern and clean down stairs with great features. Very slick.

The lock on the door of our room didn't work so we didn't have our own key. The staff had to walk us up to the room when we needed to get in. The were apologetic though. The breakfast was pricey. At the Chic and Basic in Barcelona breakfast is included in the price of the room. It was a nice eating area though and was very clean.

Overall, I really liked the hotel. It lives up to its name - basic but stylish, in an Ikea-ish sort of way. I reserved a single room but when I arrived I was given a double room, which was still small but ideal for a solo traveller. Staff were efficient and helpful if you required them to be.

Breakfast cost an extra 7.50, and I thought this could be included in the price of the room.

Location close to centre on quite street, pleasent staff, invitingreception, clean room and bathroom. The coffee machine facility was anice touch including web surfing

This is my second stay in Chic and Basic. I like the location (quite close to the main train station), although I must say that there are others closer..but I have never tried.

The location is great, right above a canal. The rooms are clean and nice.

They were having problems with their key system so everytime you needed to get into their room the staff needed to go up and let you in. They assured us that this was their problem not ours, but it sure seemed like our problem. Also, the fire alarm went off at 1:30 am , and it was very confusing as to how to exit. Also, the staff never apologized for any inconvenience.

The stairs leading to the appartments above were directly above our bed and we could hear people stomping up and down stairs.

Very helpful, friendly staff. Great location

Some rooms very small, steep stairs, no elevator. I booked 2 rooms, sameprice, but one was very small; could barely walk around the bed. Theother was large, but bathroom dimly lit, with need of updating.

It's chic and it's basic and such a good price for being in such a lovely neighborhood. Close to central station while being on a quite and very picturesque zone, the Jordaan.

Very minor but I wasn't quite impressed with the way housekeeping cleaned my room. Also you could here noise from the corridor. Luckily, I'm not very sensitive to that.
