Only three words to describe it: oh my god!! We met the architect who was been part of the restoration of the Riad. He told us the family that owns it wanted it to be a museum to demonstrate Arabian art and craft after 6 years' restoration, but at the last moment they decided to open a guest house to share the astonishing work the local artisans have done, and let their guests to be able to simply stay and enjoy it. all reviews » I travelled to Morocco with my sister and we were so excited to have found this Riad on letsbookhotel.com. We were not disappointed. I've been to the Taj Mahal and Riad Rcif is like spending the night in the Taj Mahal! The craftsmanship of the intricate tile work, carved wood work, stained glass and beautiful decor is breathtaking! The staff made us feel like we were more than guests but like we were friends. Many nights (we stayed four night but wish we would have stayed longer) we spent on th. There was so much to like. The building is a jewel and opulant. Don't miss the rooftop and the charming intimate chimney room. However, it is often staff who make or break a hotel and here the owners have been very fortunate. Ayisha manages the hotel very well indeed and is on hand to provide travel advice and suggestions and to talk about the city. She also provides a first rate massage. Nothing is too much trouble and the breakfasts are terrific, they varied slightly each day. I would go back. The magnificently restored Riad Rcif, very conveniently located in the medina, combines a visual feast of hand-decoration (mosaic tiles, plaster carving, carved wooden doors) with a warm and inviting hospitality. Australian manager Aisha and Riad owner Hisham and all who work there made me feel very welcome and helped me find my way around Fes. Delicious meals, a magnificent view of the medina from the rooftop terrace and comfortable rooms. On first impression it feels as though you are privile. Would definitely recommend to anyone who can cope with steps, those that can't should . Riad Rcif is an unmissable unique experience! The attentiveness of the staff is second to none. The decor is superlative and the food is delicious. An outstanding feature is the harmony of the place; the strong links between the family who run it and the very fabric of the building create a warmth which is very welcoming and infectious. The second day we were here we just didn't want to venture outside, we just basked in the ambience as the day slipped away! I would fully recommend Riad Rcif to. All areas of the riad are visually stunning, comparable to the most beautiful medersas and mosques we visited. Furnishing are opulent. The front of house service was easily the best received during our trip. Place Rcif is very central in the medina and where the majority of tourist sights are clustered. Place Rcif is also very well signposted throughout the medina - which in hindsight is a bigger benefit than you might imagine if you haven't visited Fes before (I.E. you will get lost)!. It was a beautiful stay in the Riad Rcif in the middle of the old town of Fes!! It is a great building, full of history, beautiful architecture, mosaics and the warmth of the people who are always there for their guests!! Very close to Place Rcif, very helpful staff (Aisha), even when i asked special request they help me and that was really not obvious! Just take a look on the picture of this riad and you will not need to look for better accomodation in old Fes Medina. Best and safe place to stay!. Its a such place that gives you the hone feeling. Staff were freindly and if I forget anything that wont be the directing manager Ms. Aisha who is taking care of every thing.. Other staff are also very friendly. The tea room was the most beautiful of all the riads we stayed in. We were escorted to and from the riad each time we left the medina. It would have taken much longer on our own. Very peaceful for inside the medina. We departed early and were given breakfast to go- a very generous and hospital end to our stay. The upper floor rooms would not suit the elderly or infirm due to the steep stairs. Because of the historical authenticity, the bathroom facilities are not to international hotel standards with regards to fittings etc. i didnt like that i had to wake up so early, that i couldnt enjoy probably delicious breakfest, just because i wanted to see as much a possible in such a short time. Anyway thet prepare me take away breakfest!. Not very close to main gates for an old man like me but its a 3 mnts walk. The satellite television has over 300 hundred channels, but very few were in English. We felt a little awkward the morning we departed. We were scheduled to meet our tour guide at 8 am, and had to wake up the staff so that we could check out and pay. A little odd since I'm sure many parties must depart early to make it to the desert before sunset (where we were headed). But, overall a comfortable and pleasant stay. Going Home!. Not having our cell phones made it hard for us to contact them for assistance in navigating the maze of the Medina!. - the acess at night is confusing and the employee that picked us at the entrance of the medina was a bit rude. Hot water was not real hot. Getting to the residence in the old city is a bit of a challenge the first time. Guests should make arrangements to be met at the train station or the nearby plaza (Place R'cif). too much food for meals? not sure if that is a bad thing... It was a little hard to find. I wish I would have planned an extra day or two more. The menu was authentic but rather limited. Quite hard to find - but than again, at the Medina everything is hard to find. Give them a call and they pick you up at the airport or at the Place R'Cif nearby. Two extra beds were kinda useless Slightly chaotic host. The dinner was good but very expensive by Moroccan standard. In fact we felt being exploited everywhere in Fez as they charge European price for Moroccan standard food and service. dinner was excessively pricy. Some issue arriving at the riad and having to pay myself for transporting the luggage. A bit too much 'story' about the riad offered by the hosts. They need to be a little less 'heavy' on the drama. Quite a walk from the nearest taxi point. We stayed in March and it was quite cold still, so inside the Riad with the thick walls it was even colder. The interior of the rooms (mosaics everywhere you look) made us feel even colder. One of the owners was pretty drunk the morning we left and made us feel very uncomfortable. It's a must see and certainly good for one night, but we wouldn't come again. The Ambassador room we had, has a really beautiful authentic high ceiling and tile walls but the room was consequently also missing a bit of a 'cosy' atmosphere. The lighting could perhaps be improved to better emphasize its actual beauty. The guide arranged by the hotel did not seem legitimate. the location is very bas and far from the street and very hard to find and also some times not totaly safe!!!!!.
