The hotel was fantastic, staff exceptional and facilities beautiful. A great spot in the city of Georgetown and lots of different options at the one hotel for room types from conventional rooms to 2 bed apartments. A special mention to Annie at reception who always made us feel welcome and was always helpful and really made the stay there. The breakfast and the other food and beverage there was very nice. There is also excellent information regarding the history of the Hotel and the plants in the garden. There is very little space in the garden however it is presented beautifully and you forget that you are in the middle of the city. The swimming pool is small but once more beautifully fitted in.The design and the deco. I have stayed here twice now and am going back again this week. The ladies on reception are fantastic, very helpful and knowledgable. Their English is excellent also. I stayed with my friend last time and they provided us with a birthday cake as they had discovered we were celebrating significant birthdays. The overall customer service is very refreshing in these days of do it yourself everything. The decor here is also great and reflects the Peranikan heritage of PenNg very well. I have recomm. Hotel Penaga is a beautifully restored environmentally friendly boutique hotel with attention to all details and a warm and helpful staff that go beyond their jobs to ensure a good vacation. As a woman traveling alone, their thoughtful recommendations and assistance made me especially comfortable. The room was beautifully furnished with period pieces and the bathroom had a lovely jacuzzi plus walk in shower. The air conditioning and bed were also very good quality. Original paintings in our room, fantastic sculpture in the hallways and garden. The building itself is a restored old building, with lovely colored glass in the window panes, but very modern fixtures in the bathrooms including jacuzzi and rainforest shower. Breakfast was good too, with many choices. Staff were very friendly welcoming and helpful and the hotel was chosen as it was small and not part of a chain. Rooms were very comfortable with good decor and modern artworks and very close to heritage area in Georgetown. Nice restaurant but only had breakfast as we went to Georgetown to enjoy the street food which is plentiful and varied. We used the lap pool and spa bath. Location is a bit far from heritage site but still in walking distance. An India restaurant right next to hotel can full your stomach till midnight, taste good with reasonable price. Location - it's located right in the center of Georgetowen. It's just a few minutes walk to the main city attractions. Cleanliness - the hotel is very clean and tidy. Little expense has been spared in converting a very old building into a intriguing hotel. Art works, antique Asian furniture and very spacious rooms. It is close to the major attractions of Georgetown. The staff were always helpful and cheery. The room decor is very nice. Most furniture a are made of solid hard wood. Very traditional pre war shop house ambient. The jacuzzi in the bath room are wonderful. The staffs are very helpful. And of course the location is very convenient. This hotel was AMAZING!! If you want to treat yourself for a night or two, this artsy hotel is amazing and after hostel stays we were in heaven with a rain shower and jacuzzi tub, pool and gorgeous room with all the amneties. Breakfast selection was large and well presented. Good location; walking distance to free shuttle bus stop. Number of restaurants are walking distance. Gurney plaza is a 15 minute drive by taxi. I loved the room, the balcony and the bathroom with its jacuzzi!. There was very little to dislike However on arrival it was suggested that our room could be changed to one facing the garden rather than the busy roads outside however this was overturned by more senior staff when we returned to book in. Traffic noise could be an issue. It was quite perfect!. That we couldnt stay longer! The pool area was on the small side but not sure what they could do about that. Everything was fine. Buffer breakfast has few verity. We booked a second night and wanted to stay in the same room, but there seemed to be a lot of confusion but it was soon sorted out and was fine. Room service was only till 10:00pm. Breakfast choice is a bit limited. Nothing!. Location little far from everything but acceptable. Breakfast could be more choice. Price a bit high. Nothing in particular. Just the beds - wayyyy too hard. They could make the pool area more welcoming, after telling you in the room that there would be towels there weren't, the showers didn't work and it was almost impossible to get a drink by the pool. No negative points. Very hard bed. The drinks in the bar were way over priced!. Some areas of the bathroom were not clean. Hard to control the aircon and fan. The noice from the steet is irritating. We stayed on the 1st fl facing main road . it was very noisy and light got into the room despite the bind (that did not fully cover the windows . The Aircon was very noisy on the 1st night. Room overlooking a motorcycle repairshop limited the enjoyment of the comfortably equipped balcony. Didn't like the fact the door to the bathroom has stained glass & clear glass & therfore is see through.This made me very uncomfortable every time I used the toilet. The spa was closed throughout my stay although I was offered an alternative spa at another hotel up the road. I would have expected the spa to be open as I was paying a premium rate over Chinese New Year. Suggestion ..iPod docking stations in rooms please..DVD and CD opp layer not much use to most travellers. Muesli at breakfast ? Tiny points ..nothing detracted from a great stay. Nothing. Buffet breakfast serving portion too small. Insufficient for the number of guests having breakfast. Sometimes staff were a bit too obtrusive - especially at breakfast when staff often hovered waiting for you to finish a course and then came to take the dish away almost before you had time to put the cutlery back on the plate. A little pricy. Also suggest to look for unit with balcony facing courtyard, more quiet. small swimming pool, limited breakfast spread. Hotel in located in quite noisy area, there is a noisy Indian restaurant juest opposite the hotel. Noisy motorbike shop outside room , could have changed breakfast a bit each day. Nothing! It was great!. They charged extra for a cup of green tea during the breakfast, 13,20 rm, thats quiet poor. I disliked the IKEA waste bins, I didn't think they fit in with the room concept. Also, I was unfortunate enough to have noisy guests above my room whose walk shook the ceiling, not unlike a mini earthquake. They were stomping around the room non-stop from 9 pm and as early as from 5 am the next morning. I complained to the reception; after all, I paid good money to stay at the hotel and was entitled to a peaceful and quiet stay.
