The hotel couldn't be better situated (or better value) as it is just 5 minutes walk from the combined station and bus terminal which has a tourist office with plenty of maps and timetables for the public transport. NB: If you are flying to or from Wakkanai airport buses connect with ALL flights in and out with a one-way fare to downtown of 590 yen (as at July 2013). The hotel manager and staff made me very welcome and the hotel was excellent value for money. It's a "ryokan" type hotel whic.
all reviews » I arrived late at night, when I arrived the owner (?) of this place was incredibly friendly and even went so far as to carry my extremely heavy luggage up to my room. The room was unusually spacious for Japanese standards, even larger than in most more expensive accomodations I have used in Japan so far, it had everything you need and (important in Japan) a very cozy and soft futon. I have slept in many places in Japan, and especially the cheap places often have incredibly uncomfortable futons,. Cleanest hotel I have ever stayed. Excellent service and the manager is super nice. And you will get a true taste of Japan. Location is excellent as it is only less than a 5-min walk from JR Wakkanai station. Would definitely stay again if I come and travel next time. The hotel is very good, small and quiet. The owner is a very nice person. When we were leaving with a lot of luggage, he took us on his car to the ferry seaport. The location is great: less than 10 minute wall from the station. The stuff is great: he is very friendly and helpful. Beautiful rooms and extremely friendly staff. Staff is very nice. This is one of the first places ever that I've got absolutely nothing to complain about!. None. The town is small and looks depressed. It's situated along the sea so be ready for a strong sea and fish smell. Some things are a little bit expensive here. I recommend Wakkanai only as a transit point to Russia, Sakhalin. If this is your first trip to Japan, it's one of the worst city to begin with. Wifi is not built to reach the rooms. In the comfortable lobby it is great though, speedy and reliable. Nil. The room overall seemed a bit worn and old. The shower/bath and shower curtain were a bit moldy. Very uncomfortable pillows. No breakfast. I think there was japanese breakfast but they were reluctant to offer it to us. I am just guessing. But both my wife and I eat japanese food.
