  Great beds, after sleeping on futons on tatami mats a real bed was needed. Staff were very helpful and responsive to any of you requests. Large room by japanese standards, medium by USA standards . Will definitely stay here again. Ranked #1 for the last 7 years by S &P. well deserved. Breakfast appealed to western and Japanese palates. - We liked eveything. The location was excellent yet it was quiet. The room was quiet with good blockout curtains, and was fresh and new. WiFi worked well and was free. The breakfast was fine and the staff gave good advice when asked. The self- washing laundry was a bonus and worked well. Security was probably unnecessary but felt good and was not intrusive. We can't wait to stay here again and recommend it to others.

The staff are very friendly helpful and go out of their way to assist you with everything (eg train timetables). The English - The service at this hotel went above and beyond. When we asked for a recommendation of a good sushi restaurant, the concierge actually ran out to a place, got us a table, and then walked us there! Impressive. The place is lovely--much nicer than even the photos could illustrate-- and in a great location, near trains, shops, and great restaurants.   We had a perfectly adequate western room with the usual/necessary functions, but be warned - it was a typical Japanese size, i.e. small and cramped. You couldn't fit in more than 2 normal sized suitcases and even that would be pushing it (we had 1 and a couple of smaller hand baggage bags). But the bed (queen size double) was VERY comfortable - the best in our 4 week stay in Japan. Also it was very conven - I really liked the location - it's very close to the park and the subway station. Particularly coming from Narita, the access is quite convenient and they have very good instructions on how to find the hotel. I'd say the rooms were a good value. Yes, they are small - but that's pretty standard for Tokyo or any large city. They were clean and comfortable, and had travel necessities like hair dryers, shampoo, etc. Also the laundry on the 6th floor was useful. Staff is excellent. I needed to send

  We had a 1 month trip around Japan :- Tokyo(Asakusa), Tokyo(Yokahama), a cruise, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Osaka & back via Helsinki. Throughout Japan we were impressed by the politeness, friendliness & cleanliness & we are sure all hotels at all levels meet the same standards. This was a traditional Ryokan & needed getting used to ! It w... what people say » as perfectly located right in the middle of the oldest suburb of Tokyo, close to a temple, market street & river. It is however a unique experienc - Hotel is a quiet and peaceful haven in a busy, interesting area, just minutes away from many things to see and excellent traditional shopping. Staff are helpful, although it will help if you can speak a little Japanese. I have stayed in their tatami rooms before and this time stayed in a single (western style) room which was spacious for a single. Good to have free wifi, unlike many hotels. Tip - buy the koto cd at the reception desk as a memento.
