Yamada Bessou is one of the most (if not the most) lovely places I have ever been. It has all the atmosphere of a picturesque Japanese ryokan, with spatious rooms and all the commododities of a good hotel. They have one staff capable of speaking English (something very rare in Japan for small hotels!), but everyone is so overwhelmingly helpful and... what people say » friendly that you will quickly forget that they are speaking Japanese. The breakfast is excellent, as well as a beautiful outdoors bath (rotemburo) w - This is a very homey family-owned and -run guest house (from since the current owner's great-grandfather). My wife and I felt very welcomed during our stay. Among the facilities are the excellent onsens (separate public men/women and another private one). The location is also very good -- only a 10-15 minute walk from Beppu JR Station which is the hub Beppu's public transportation services.

The ryokan is situated off the main town but with a car, it is easy to reach all parts of Ibusuki. The owner and his colleague were very friendly. Indeed the one that w - We stayed at this ryokan to have the experience while we were in Japan and we chose this one in particular because of its location in Ibusuki, where we could enjoy the hot springs and try a sand bath. The owner is a delightful man who speaks English very well. He drove us to several of our in-town destinations and gave us great restaurant suggestions. Overall fantastic hospitality and beautiful area to visit.

The owner had his own dyeing classes and it was a very unique experience doing my own dye patterns on the shirt with hot wax. A lot of extra's, some for free, some for an unbelievable low price, and offered in funny but very adequate ways :-) Best futons I have ever engaged. Kashima Honkan is a traditional Japanese style hotel. It's quite experience to stay there. It's party of three for us and we stay in one room sleep on futon. The sheets are clean and the blankets are enough for the cold winter. We had the Japanese style breakfast (additional fee) one morning which was lovely!! It's quite a value for what we pay! T... what people say » he staff are very friendly and very informative as to where we should go for meals and sight seeing. Oh, we also love the Japanese style bath. (There - Beautiful inn and large rooms. Small and beautiful garden outside my room's window. Some of the facilities are slightly worn, but not unusably so, and I think it adds to the atmosphere of a historic inn. Great location in the middle of Fukuoka, with easy access to most points of interest.

The hotel is nicely decorated and is quite spacious. All stuff here are super friendly and helpful. The receptionist could speak English and Chinese as well. He took a very good care of us. Very impressed. If you want to enjoy yourself in a nice and quiet small town, this is the hotel you should book. Not too many fancy and high-tech stuff, but ... what people say » warm in deed. You could borrow bikes from the hotel and explore the small town yourself. - Sozankyo is a well-maintained ryokan -style accommodation that is ideal for Aso. There is nothing much to say about the small town, but it is nice and cozy (i.e. don't expect any colorful night life here). The onsen is very nice and clean.

Warm welcome and perfect service. The hostess took time to try to communicate with me in spite of my inexistant Japanese.
