The hotel is nice and our room (two adults and two kids) was quite large. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We never ate at any of the hotel restaurants and so cannot comment. As with other Japan hotes they provide lots of amenities. All in all it was good choice and good value for money. Also located within short walking distance of the Kyoto Imperial Palace and short taxi rides to the Golden and Silver temples.
all reviews » The concierge was amazing! The purpose of my vacation was to see the temples, see the Gion district, and dress up like a Geisha. She helped me to plan everything with the buses, trains, taxis, etc. She had maps for me in English that were extremely helpful. The hotel is centrally located near the main attractions of Kyoto making it ideal for my vacation. The hotel is quite nice but honestly speaking I expected more for the money they requested. A typical hotel with spacious rooms. A positive side is that it has a free shuttle running from the hotel to the closest subway station. But as for the rest - really quite an ordinary hotel and I stayed in much better with no 5 stars... This hotel exceeded our expectations. We had a room for four. The hotel was roomy and luxurious, with a wonderful atrium. Located in a quite residential area just a couple of blocks from the imperial palace. The staff and service was incredible. Had a shuttle to the subway, which was only a few blocks anyway. Even though the location is a touch outside the center the convenient shuttle made it easy to catch the subway. The hotel looks very elegant and hig class. While located reasonably close to Kyoto station and the city centre the location is slightly suburban and therefore not a lot of eating options. But then we were mostly out and about. There is a 7-11 convenience store located five minutes away which provided most of what we needed. I would like to have a hot tub at the hotel but the bathtubs in the rooms are a very nice alternative. Overpriced, room furniture is worn out, e.g. a desk in our room had several deep and wide scratches that were quite distinctly seen on the black. The lighting in the bathroom is really stupid - the lamp above the mirror is less bright than the lamp behind your back so you cannot see your face details normally and there is no possibility to switch off back light. The matrass is quite hard and it is not quite comfortable to sleep more than one night on. Nothing!. During first arrival before check-in, I have difficulty finding the shuttle transport. Next time, the hotel should show the map of shuttle pickup location on their website, in which part of the intersection the shuttle will wait. Like other reviewers noted, the prices in the restaurants are very high. The hotel would do well to open a small cafe for simple meals (soup and a sandwich etc.) since the other restaurants serve multi course expensive meals. We found Shinshindo for breakfast (ask the concierge for directions) within a brisk 10 min. walk and a great little French restaurant "a la Chalamont" a block and a half away, address: 13 Nishitakatsukasa-cho for a prix fixe 3 course lunch at reasonable price. The shuttle service, though efficient, is to a small station. You have to take the subway from Kyoto station. And it only runs till 9:40pm. If you miss it, then you to be prepared to walk. Restaurants are a bit pricey but the hotel has a few eating joints close by which are quite good. Very expensive food and bar. nothing. nothing. Poor choice of English language tv channels ...cnn is boring and there are many better english channels eg bbc Exorbitant weekend rates ...no discount for long stay offered through letsbookhotel.com.. Average standard of western food in main restaurant. Location was a bit out, but the shuttle bus compensated for it. Overall very happy with hotel but some may find the location a little far. The hotel is not tourism-oriented located, but a shuttle is available to take you to the subway station, hence you don't need to grab a cab each and every time you feel like going somewhere. The Teppanyaki restaurant was very good but very expensive and no menu outside to see prices until already sat down inside. Coffee shop restauarant for lunch also over priced for what you got. No TV in English. A little outside of the where the main sights are (apart from the Imperial Palace which is very close) However its a pleasant 10-15min walk to subway station, and the shuttle bus service to the subway station is efficient even if the schedule is indecipherable. The restaurant is very expensive by my standards (USA) and the location is not adjacent to public transportation but they do run a shuttle. Expensive food and the location. The meal options were very expensive compared to the rest of Japan. We suggest guests walk 100 metres to the local coffee shop for breakfast. Nothing. i would have liked some soft drinks in the minibar. They charge a little amount using the pool. A bit pricey. No Downside!!!. The price of their restaurant food. They charged my credit card twice for the accommodation leaving me out of pocket for a considerable amount of money during the rest of my trip. Apparently it will take two weeks for the money to be replaced. No real explanation for why it happened. Old-ish rooms, we were forgotten for 30 mins at the bar (we got menus but no order taken), position not really central, can be noisy if big party in the lobby, no wireless internet in rooms. location and price.
