Everything! I have travelled to Kyoto often and this small hotel was ideally located close to friends and the attractions which I always visit when in the city. Subway only 2 minutes walk away. Real Japan all around you. Staff are super-friendly and speak English. It is very hard to find it for first time. You need a good map, asking people doesn’t help. no lift. Taxis were not too familiar with the hotel's location. We had the phone number on hand and therefore, the taxi driver could call the hotel for directions. The "eco" stands more for economical than ecological (plastic cups, breakfast indvidually wrapped in plastic, really long toilet flush...). No elevator; not recommended if you have heavy pcs of luggage. No safety box. Nothing I didn't like. It's not a luxurious hotel but it is a very good choice for those who cannot spend lots. It's a hassle climbing up and down the stairs (to go laundrette or to use wifi in the common area) if you happen to stay on 2nd or 3rd floor. But it was mentioned before booking so I've no issue on this. The room's bathroom is very small, but it's clean and functional. The breakfast, although something, needed to be supplemented. It could be easier to find. I knew from Street View where it was but maybe some signs from the main road/Subway would help. Beds for western couples either too small if a double or had to have twin beds. Rooms a bit small and tight for two people. The WiFi wasn't great. The bed mattress was like a rock. Not very comfortable. The pillow was also uncomfortable. The TV was on small table so you could only see the top third of it if in bed. It should be up higher. Hard to find Wi-fi didn't work in the rooms, only in the general area. Bit hostelly. Bed is a bit uncomfortable. Nothing apart from that there were no english handbook for the AC unit. The hotel does not have elevator so you want to be in second floor as much as possible specially if carrying load. Location is very central but is not easy to reach the hotel, so when you book ask them to send you the map they offer when you check in that easily explains how to reach the hotel. It's difficult to travel with the big suitcases and sadly I had to stay on the third floor and I have to carry them up the stairs because there was NO LIFT!. Self-service system.
