Yamada Bessou is one of the most (if not the most) lovely places I have ever been. It has all the atmosphere of a picturesque Japanese ryokan, with spatious rooms and all the commododities of a good hotel. They have one staff capable of speaking English (something very rare in Japan for small hotels!), but everyone is so overwhelmingly helpful and friendly that you will quickly forget that they are speaking Japanese. all reviews » This is a very homey family-owned and -run guest house (from since the current owner's great-grandfather). My wife and I felt very welcomed during our stay. Among the facilities are the excellent onsens (separate public men/women and another private one). The location is also very good -- only a 10-15 minute walk from Beppu JR Station which is the hub Beppu's public transportation services. Fantastic little Japanese style Ryoukan, with a wonderful family running it. The open air hot spring they have is also excellent. If you want to experience a traditional hot spring experience id highly recommend Yamada Bessou. Location is also great, less than 5 mins walk from station so it makes it convenient to drop your luggage off and go hot spring hopping. Wondeful welcome, like if you are coming to a friend's place, but extremely professional too. Extraordinarily beautiful old japanese house - nice vintage decoration. A place that makes you feel that you are really experiencing japanese style of living. It is vey well located too in Beppu, close to everything. And the outdoor spa is a must!. We loved the staff at this Ryoken and the facilities and room was the best we stayed in Japan for our Honeymoon. We cant rate this place highly enough and when we come back to Beppu we will definitely love to stay again. Thanks for a wonderful stay. The outdoor onsen was nice, the whole ryokan experience was interesting especially the breakfast. a v traditional japanese hotel . there is a private hot spring. all hotel is covered by wifi. The kindness of the owner and room very large and in perfect. Japanese style. Live its traditional style. Wifi signal is very weak in certains parts of the ryokan (including my room). In the lounge it works well but it is kinda of slow. I cannot think of any. Nothing. Althoug the private onsen (outside) is great, depending on the day, the water can get almost too hot to take a dip. Not much to do about that though as it is a natural hotspring.. nothings to report. Share Bath room. bathrooms rather dated, not all ensuite. Open air onsen has no washing facility so after onsen, we need to go back to indoor onsen for washing. It's quite trouble. shared toilet and bathrooms, some areas are definitely tired. the bldg is a bit old. we had a toilet in our room, but there was some bad smell. The very strong smell of sewer coming from the bathroom. Smell of mat and toilet. No private wash room and toilet. Public not clean enough. no heater in restroom.
