Ideal location in the most relaxed town on lake como. We could not have asked for a better stay. We managed to get room 26 which had 2 balconies overlooking the lake. The room was large and had everything we needed for 2 days. The staff were friendly and the breakfast one of the best. We spent two beautiful days in verenna and we miss it so much. The vibe was great, wandering down the coast, every restaurant has a view and are fairly inexpensive. The galati, amazing, and we would highly recomme.
all reviews » Hotel Olivedo is a lovely hotel that sits right at the edge of Lake Como. The rooms are large, clean and very comfortable. The staff were very nice and helpful with local knowledge/information. The hotel is a real mix of modern upgrade with an authentic Italian feel. When you wake in the morning, you open the french doors to look out to an absolutely breathtaking view of the lake.( I still think about that view!) The ferry stops right out front of the hotel so made it very easy to visit othe. Best location on Lake Como. Bellagio may be the pearl of Lake Como but Varenna is the diamond. This is the easiest waterfront hotel in Varenna to access by train or ferry. All of the others require climbing steep cobble stoned alleys with your suitcases. Spectacular 180 degree views of Lake and mountains beyond from your balcony. Staff very attentive. Laura may seem stern to some but always had a friendly 'bon giorno' or 'sleep well'. Well maintained 'original' furniture. Comfortable be. This hotel is in the perfect location. The staff (Laura) was very helpful and accommodating. Our room was on the top floor (with no lift after the 3rd floor). The room was cozy and comfortable and we had the funniest view of the lake (from the floor). The bathroom was very large and comfortable. The bed was great, but the pillows hard and flat (like most of Italy). Laura was very personal and friendly with us and made us feeling very welcome and comfortable. Breakfast and Dinner was excell. The rooms were big, updated, comfortable, decorated nicely and the patio had a great view of lake and mountains. The hotel is very friendly and makes you feel very special. The hotel restaurant had amazing great food and a good wine selection. It is next to the boats loading and unloading which makes for easy access and great people watching, but the windows when closed you can not hear anything and if you leave the windows open at night the shutters offer privacy and darkness. Varenna the best village to stay as much quieter and smaller than other villages, but still so many choices of places to eat. Our room was large and the most stunning views from both our balconey windows. A recent addition of a lift and soundproof windows and doors (dec 2012) makes it easy to get luggage. It is set right on Lake Como with the Ferry landing 200 feet away, so you can go and come as you please to all the towns on the mid lake, the train to Milan is a short walk (10 minutes) the food is great and you can eat and drink on the front veranda and watch all the activity on the lake and take in some of the greatest scenery in the world. In over 70 trips to Europe it was one of the best places for value, location and comfort. It was like having your own place on Lake Como. The hotel is in a beauitful location overlooking the Lake and close to the main resturant area. The room was beautiful with a balacony overlooking the lake. The room was very large with traditional italian furniture. The bathroom was also large with all the modern essential. The staff were extrememly helpful with the owner allowing us to come in after the 12.30 curfew as we were attending a wedding. I would recommend this hotel to everyone and hope to visit again soon. It's a little quirky - but in a nice way. It's NOT a cookie cutter hotel design. The location is fantastic - right by the ferry stop for Lake Como. The breakfast is modest - but good. Great coffee. Good croissants. The best part, however, was the staff, particularly Laura. The location on the lake and the easy access to the ferry and lake boats was a real plus. Our room on top floor, but basically no view in any direction, room was all that was available for a last minute reservation. No the hotel does have other nice rooms with views, next time need to do better job of planning ahead. We had a marvelous time in this facitlity that looks and feels as if you have stepped back in time. The room was spacious, the reception friendly and dinner in the dining room was delicious. The location - all rooms are a short stone's throw from Lake Como, a pretty strole around the lakefront to Varenna's centre, plus extremely convenient for ferries to the rest of the lake. We were severely sleep deprived when we arrived and slept past breakfast the first morning, but our hostess insisted we sit down and brought us a nice breakfast. The location was ideal for our needs. Included breakfast was fine but dinner was overpriced compared to what is available elsewhere in the village. No blinds in room, so room very bright at night from street lights, despite having closed the outside shutters. But besides this we would stay here again. We, only could stay for three days. It's an old hotel - so the elevator is very small - and does not reach the 4th floor, where we stayed. We only used it for getting our luggage up & down. Very slow. The dinner selections are a bit uneven. The pasta is very good. The meat courses, not as much. The hotel is located near a local park, which was the site of loud festivities & concerts that went on quite long for two nights. Limited restaurants and shopping in Varenna. Room on 4th floor, elevator goes to 3rd floor. Bathroom could use a shower curtain to make taking a shower much easier. A ceiling fan would help ease the heat and therefore not need air conditioning as often. Nothing----it was wonderful!. Nothing. The bathroom had an old bathtub type shower which really is more of a bath than a shower. Other than that, everything was fine. Being of solid construction the wifi was not complete but better than many other hotels in Italy and simple to use. The elevator. Very slow and claustrophobic. The bar next door plays very loud music on Saturday nights until midnight (not an issue Sun or Mon). €12 per day charge for parking. Some background music in the dining room would make conversation easier. People were talking in whispers, and it made it rather strained at times. Bed a bit too firm. Saturday night party at adjacent restaurant was a bit too loud, thought it shut down sharply at midnight. Twin beds pushed together to make a king size bed don't really work well for us, but this is a common arrangement. We were unable to enter the hotel after approx 12.30am as the front door was locked. We had to telephone Laura who lives on the premises to let us in. It was probably more costly than I am used to in Europe. Leaving. A little too busy with ferry traffic in front of the hotel. Nothing. nothing not to like. Nothing. Breakfast was very basic but service was good. Furnishings dated, a bit like visiting grandma's cottage but bathroom was large and modern. Some will like this frozen in time hotel, others will find it dated. The AC is turned off during certain periods of the day, which we found to be common in many of the hotels in Italy. None-the-less, it made for some warm nights. The breeze from the lake kept us cool when there was some. We had to venture to other cafes or bars in order to purchase small bottles of water for the room. Rooms can be bright at night due to the harbor lights. Ferries arrive almost every half hour around the clock. Would have been useful to have drink making facility in the room. nothing - apart from the fact that I had to leave and could have stayed for ever!. Hotel lobby/stairs/halls all smelled of cigarettes -Rooms were ok smelling though Had a few issues with heat & hot water but the staff fixed them quickly. For the price of the hotel, I feel that the breakfast should be a little more elaborate. Only bread and cold cuts were offered. I can't think of one thing. The bar next door has loud music on some nights which can make it hard to sleep. Nothing.
