What is there not to like from a good hotel and restaurant in the hills just outside Pistoia. It was still off season so we were unable to be outside where there is a pool(presently not operating) and lovely views. It is so quiet at night and cooler than Florence. Dinner on the terrazza overlooking Florence. The antique everything. What better than a stay in a Medici Villa for a visit to Florence! You can buy bus tickets right there and hike up to the road to catch a bus. Nice 20 min walk to Fiesole, or you can take the bus. Coffee on the Terrazza next to the Aurora Hotel in Fiesole is great too. There is no A/C but the large ceiling fan was sufficient. No TV, but who has time to watch tv with all the stu

A bit of a find, this - right in the centre of Siena, the many stairs lead to a top floor maze of linked apartments managed from the floor below. Astonishing views from both communal areas and some rooms. Kitchen extremely well set up and spacious - could happily cook a family meal here if travelling on a budget. Theres even a freezer. Owners good-natured and helpful eg: allowed us to leave bags there on last day to pick up later.

Very nice rustic and peaceful. Great views of the countryside and Montepulciano is only about 10km away. In the nearby town of Valiano there is a really good contemporary Italian restaurant called Guastini, which is definitely worth a visit. -
