Though in the interior streets the location is just very good for budget travellers. Especially this guy called Harry at the reception was too helpful. Easy to get to with instructions initially. Can walk to Rialto, Station and San Marco. Lots of ristorante nearby. Our room was very comfortable & shared bathroom was clean with great water pressure!   We stayed in the one-bedroom apartment in Castello. The location was excellent, especially since we were visiting the Biennale exhibit and both Arsenale and Giardine are close.   A good position, close to the railway station but in an area of Venice which I know well and which is not particularly touristy. The staff were friendly and the room and bathroom very clean. Considering that Venice has for centuries based its prosperity on theft (I am a professional historian!), the Hotel Doge was a pleasant change from usual Venet... what people say » ian characteristics! - The staff are lovely, very close to the train station and easy to find, sharing a bathroom is no problem as it was clean and the room is very quaint and cosy. As a woman travelling alone I felt 100% safe and comfortable. Highly reccomended and would certainly like to visit again!
