What a lucky surprise! Tucker away off a main plaza and shopping area, this is a wonderful, cozy, place to stay with a real Italian restaurant hidden on a side street with a direct access from the hotel. The water stayed hot, adjustable shower, 2 pillows instead of one, window that opened, hair dryer worked, 110 to 220 socket converter, bright and low lighting, extra mirrors, extra soaps, lotions and toothbrush, extra towels. We stayed here only one night in early June, specifically because it is right at the airport and we had an early morning flight. The room was great, spacious, well decorated and comfortable. We had been traveling all day with a tour, and, due to our late arrival we chose to eat in the hotel restaurant. The food was very good and the staff very attentive. My husband and I stayed here for two nights during a month in Europe. We were originally booked into the 4 star hotel next door but upon check-in was upgraded to this 5 star. This was a pleasant surpise after a long and exhausting drive from France. Our car was taken and parked by a valet and our bags taken to our room immediately as our room was ready for us. I have been at Hotel Continental Genoa for the past three nights and I could not have asked for a better service! The staff (particularly, Paolo, Marzia, Birgit, Victor and Francesco) have been incredibly kind and generous with their time. They have even assisted me with unrelated hotel activities (e.g., finding the psychology department at the Genoa University or calling Master Card when my only credit card was not operational). Stayed two nights on business in a 'standard' room. Check-in was quite efficient and the room was reasonably spacious, excellent fittings and amenities, flat screen TV as well as a smaller TV inside the bathroom mirror (a bit of a gadget though since you had to dim the light to watch it, ruling out TV + a close shave). Overall the room atmosphere was nice, with a Forte-like look to it (wood and leather, closer to the Amigo's Forte than the Meridien's Forte), and of course, air conditioned. Ma - Jon-paul

We stayed in this grand old hotel for one night...loved the beautiful staircase, the high, ornate ceilings, large room with very comfortable beds, all that we required -large wardrobe, linen, toiletries, safe and even a bath! Very friendly and helpful staff. And if that isn't enough it is central to the heart of Genoa. Wouldn't hesitate to go there again. - Helen

At a really reasonable rate the Novotel Ovest in Genoa Italy has clean and satisfactory accommodations with a very good continental +, breakfast buffet. The staff is pleasant and helpful. The location is minutes by cab or bus from the port, trains and old town center. While not luxurious, we found it a real valued bargain. - Brian

The hotel is located a 15mins walk from piazza de Ferrari at the train station Brignole. It is well connected to the city center via bus, which leaves right in front of the hotel. Reception staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms are very clean but a bit aged. We had difficulties to control our aircon. Parking is included but quite pricey (20€ per night), but altogether the price was fair. - Beverley

The Hotel is in a great position in the heart of Genoa. It has charm by the bucketful and rooms the size of most London appartments. The decor is modern in an historic setting. The service is great and the staff very willing to help with anything at any time of the day. There are some excellent restaurants around the the hotel including one on the ground floor. You will remember your stay here long after you have forgotten the chain hotels that are the business travellers standard lot. It is - Brady

I stayed at the Best Western Metropoli for 7 days and it was fantastic. Every member of staff was so very helpful. I own a private doctor's clinic where customer service is very important and I felt that the staff at this hotel were all dedicated to making a guest's stay an enjoyable one. The hotel is in a great location and it is therefore an ideal base from which to explore the city. We booked a triple room for 100 euro, and double for 88 euro by an internet bookin agency, and felt that this gave excellent value for the money considering the overall price level in Genova. The hotel is located about 14 km from Genova center, so without a car do not bother. However, on a car and with good instructions we managed to find the place with little difficulty (even without a navigator). The hotel has signs here and there on the main road. We stayed one night here before starting a cruise out of Genoa. Awesome lady on the desk named Denise, extra helpful - even shouted us some lovely macchiatos after arrival. The cafe next door had lovely fare, something for everyone in the 3 generations that made up our travelling group. Bathroom small, but bedroom big - we booked a 4 sleeper room, with the kids on bunk beds. Above avg breakfast in the morn, and pretty well located, with a fairly short walk to major sights and the aquarium was wo - Stuart
