We had a great time at Residenza Gambrinus. Since there was the cycling world championships during our stay, many streets in the city center were blocked. The owner of the hotel met us outside the city center and guided us directly to a central garage where we could leave our car during the stay. Then he helped us bringing our luggage to the Residenza. That was very, very helpful and we really appreciated it. Arriving at the Residenza, we realized how central the hotel really is - just 200 mete.
all reviews » A perfect location to see Florence as it was in the centre for shopping and sightseeing. Extremely clean with modern fittings and nothing was too much trouble for the host . It was a bit tricky finding the location and bags have to be taken up I flight of stairs in order to reach the lift . The concierge is only there for limited hours.. But none of this worried us as the location and standard of facilities was well worth it . Nice room, recently renovated, en-suite bathroom was nice although the shower was extremely slow to drain, ideal location close to all historical sites and shopping - you can see the entire city walking from this hotel, quiet and felt safe. Overall enjoyed our stay and felt it was good value for the money. The location is fantastic, just off Piazza Republica where there is always something happening, and a very short walk to the Duomo. On the 4th floor with and elevator. The bathroom is well appointed and an ok size by Italian standards. The room was not spacious, but beautifully fitted. Great location. 5 mins walk to uffizi and you step out of the residence in to a main square with dozens of shops and places to eat around. 1 minute walk from the duomo. Concierge very helpful and residence is very clean and tastefully done up. Location was great, just at the heart of the historic city center. Bathroom was so clean and having an interesting water closet. The room was large and comfortable enough. We would definetly stay there again. Position, position, postion! It can be a little noisy, but you are in the middle of a big, busy tourist city and services need to be done in early morning. They should have had more cutlery available in the room. Since breakfast is offered in the restaurant outside the residence and there is no room service they should have some cutlery so one can keep fruits/snacks in the fridge in the room. They were not serving breakfast. Brusque introduction on check in, NO safe facilities, double glazing for noise reduction but woken by clunking and banging through the ceiling. Although most hotels in Italy serve delicious breakfast, this hotel does not have breakfast service. Lift broken on arrival. Not as good a view as promised. Nothing really, only that's its a difficult hotel to find. They have converted old office rooms into a hotel and the entrance is a single door with a plaque saying gambrinus so look out for it next to Hard Rock Cafe. But well worth the stay. Loud machinery type noise going persistently through the night, shower base over filling with water, show taps hard to coordinate. Nothing. Just the breakfast. Hv to go to hard rock to get the breakfast. Not convenient. But not a big issue. The manager was very difficult to get a hold of. We saw him when we checked in and never again. no breakfast included in price. would help if the reception was open more often. Hot water ran out after one shower. Elevator to get up is rather small, especially for two people with luggage. I liked everything!. Hallways are not lit after 9pm, very dark and difficult to see. Toilet leaked constantly. Staff were nice but not overly helpful when it came to a parking recommendation. We were offered 26 euros a night but ended up finding free parking outside of the city at Piazza Michelango instead. No breakfast included for the price ratio. The fact that we were asked to pay before we'd seen the room. Also it was rather like a bedroom on a floor of offices, very impersonal. I wouldn't recommend it to people travelling alone. Concierge times were very limited. Short flight of stairs before you get to the lift. Our air conditioner leaked, so we had the choice of no air conditioner or a smaller, standard room at the same price as our superior room had been!.
