The Hotel St. James is a small, charming family run hotel, centrally located near the major artistic masterpieces of Florence. It is close to the Galleria dell'Accademia, where the David of Michelangelo is kept, the church and museum of San Marco, the street market and the church of San Lorenzo. The Duomo, with the pedestrian area, the Uffizi Museum, Palazzo Vecchio and Ponte Vecchio are all reachable on foot in less than 10 minutes.

Staff very helpful, breakfast was very good, rooms were clean. Walking distance from Train station (10 min at most). The nice staff, the wonderful breakfast, the location, nice bathroom, ...very large room,comfort. all. As we were on an extremely busy street, delighted to be placed in a very peaceful room, overlooking a courtyard with no traffic noise. The facilities reflected the price, but were excellent, spacious room, quirky old fashioned bathroom, but I liked that. Great air con and plenty of choice for breakfast.

Lighted Sign on outside was not working, so we had to ask several times from local people where this hotel was, it was very easy to spot when light was on. only the beds that wouldn't stay together. only the double bed that is made of two beds which come apart and do not stay together well. In winter rooms are too cold!. It maybe silly but it would be nice if they would have some english laguage channels in TV (there was 13 but all of them in italian). The furniture of the room could be better. No shower curtain. to much noise in the night because the windows are old and some beds are just bad... but deftnly you get what you pay. towels could be better, they looked like a table cloth. There wasn't a safe in the room. the location. toilet and shower. mosquitos in the room. The basin not having any hot water. It was fine for the price... I like a hotel with upgraded comfort. Room needs refurbishment. i guess what you pay is what you get. from now on i will know better. basic decor and furniture and fittings. no air con facilities. Had a problem with ants in our room on the first night which meant we couldn't open our window for the rest of the stay - not great when it was hot in the evening and they still had the central heating on!. the shower floor was sticky... WC smelled of pee. The airco did not work - and the room was located next to an extremely busy (and even more noisy!) street. The replacement room that was promised never came. Bathroom was old and cramped and overflowed if the shower was on for more than 45 seconds - straight into the room.. It was a cheap place, so perhaps you get what you pay for, but they still delivered very much less than promised.The worst were renovation works and this during tourist season ??? Anyway they were not to see in the price which should have been lower. Heating was poor, the towels were like bed-sheet.The information the hotel supplied about itself is incorrect. they do not have cots for babies. there is no internet at all in the hotel let alone free internet, the bathroom was very dirty, the towels were like bed sheets and when we arrived none of the reception staff spoke any english so it was very difficult to fix any problems. we cancelled our booking after one night and moved hotels. The room was dusty/dirty and the bathroom needed upgrading, the bath was rusty and the toilet seat was falling off. The toilet also wouldn't flush properly. The room was very basic.
