We are returning from a fantastic trip on the Coast. Amalfi was our first stop and it was a great introduction to the beauty of this region. We have greatly appreciated our stay at Il Porticciolo and this is most certainly thanks to the owner, Carmela, who is a fantastic host. Even before we got there, she has responded to our enquiries very rapidly and has been very helpful. A few days before arriving, we got an email from her with instructions on how to get there, which have been very useful.

Situated high on the cliff of Amalfi, it overlooks from select room and its rooftop terrace the harbor view and city viewers of Amalfi, all in one glance. It was perfect for couples, as it was very clean, private, and absolutely romantic. You can watch the moon light shinning over the sea from your windows. Carmela, the owner was very nice and sweet, and served us breakfast on the terrace,. Everything! The owner (Carmela) is absolutely charming - nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast on the roof terrace with views over the sea, cliffs and town was one of the best we have ever had. It is very well located (5 min walk into town) but like most of Amalfi you have to be able to climb lots of steps. The description on the website was very accurate but we thought the rooms looked nicer in real life. The whole place was absolutely spotlessly clean and the bedrooms were very quiet - we s. This hotel is only quite small but very comfortable and Carmella is a lovely, friendly hostess. Well before we left England Carmella e-mailed directions to us and that helped us enormously when we arrived. Breakfasts are taken on the upstairs terrace -there is a good choice and although it is not buffet style, Carmella is more than happy to meet your wishes as far as possible. The hotel is situated on a pedestrian walkway that will take you directly to the town centre in approx. 5 mins. This do. We stayed at the hotel in early July for 3 nights. The hotel is very clean, our room was spacious & overlooked the harbour. The roof top terrace where we ate breakfast had stunning views overlooking the coast. Our host Carmela was very welcoming - she brought her house iron for us, arranged parking for our car and recommended restaurants which were all very good. It felt like we were staying with a friend. The breakfast was plentiful & good. The hotel is centrally located & less tha. Carmela was the most amazing host I've ever had at a hotel. She was incredibly warm and friendly. The hotel itself was excellent value for money: the rooms were of a reasonable size, the beds comfortable, everything was immaculately clearn, and the aircon was very efficient! The wifi connection was fast, and the rooftop terrace was the perfect place to relax. Breakfasts were also varied, fresh and delicious. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Amalfi. Thankyou again Carmela!. Carmela is the best! She is so gracious, and she fixes a wonderful breakfast. The rooms are well-appointed and have great views, but be aware that it's a hike to get there. You might want to find it first, then park somewhere safe and leave your luggage in your car, carrying with you only what you most need for the night. On the up side, the walk to the hotel is interesting and teaches you to explore side streets!. Carmela was a great hostess. Porticciolo is just what we wanted for Amalfi: somewhere clean (it's very clean), not too gaudy (there can be a lot of faded grandeur in this area) and a good location (right overlooking the beach but not in the heart of the town). Would definitely recommend it. The terrace was empty all but one night we were there and is a beautiful spot to eat pizzas and have a glass of wine at night!. Carmella is an excellent host.We were taken care of from the moment that we arrived. The hotel is enough away from the touristic main street that you feel as if you can relax fully. The views from our room and the roof terrace were fantastic The steps up to he hotel are not really an issue providing you are not totally unfit or have mobility issues. The Porticciolo is a wonderful place in which you can have great breakfast in a beautiful terrace in front of the sea. The view from the rooms and the roof terrace was lovely, and the rooms were clean, comfortable and well appointed. the free wifi worked very well and was very useful. Particularly good was the real hair dryer in the room rather than the awful things they usually put in hotel rooms. Would stay here again. Carmela and her husband make us feeling very welcomed.... Amalfi being a hillside town, it should not be a surprised to anyone that you are often climbing up stairs. This applies to this inn. Once said, it probably adds to the charm of staying in such a location since it characterizes the whole region. It is located high on the cliff like most of the houses on Amalfi coast, but Carmela can arrange someone to pick you up from the port and lift your luggage for a small fee, and you can walk as little as 25 steps, although the street leading to city center may be some 200 steps, which we found super fun, as a young couple. Lots of steps to the hotel from Amalfi centre. Nothing. One suggestion would be to have refrigerators in the rooms as the terrace is a lovely spot for eating/drinking. That said, Carmela was fine with us making use of the refrigerator they had up there for the hotel anyway. We liked everything. The only slight downside was the number of steps to climb from the center of Amalfi to get to Il Porticciolo, which would be difficult if you were older or unfit. Nothing to complain about!. We had to climb up stairs about 50 steps to get to the hotel. The more compact baggage the better. Hotel is above Amalfi so it's a little difficult to carry suitcase. Amalfi has lots of steps in this hilly location but that becomes part of its charm. The steps to the hotel were hard work but that is the case throughout the amalfi area. You need to climb a few steps to get to the hotel but it was worth the view. Room big enough but hard to find places to put bags. Shower lovely and new but no shelves at all for anything. A pretty hard drag up the hill to the place and their instructions are not clear enough.
