Set opposite Lido di San Giovanni beach, Il Gabbiano overlooks the sea. It is 10 minutes' walk from Alghero's historic centre and tourist harbour. It is located only 400 metres from the marina. The friendliness of the staff - the room was lovely and the location perfect - easy for the airport, right on the beach and within easy walking distance of the town and bars/restaurants. The hotel was very clean. The location of the hotel is good, between the Old Town and the beach and the staff are friendly and very helpful. Our room was very clean, comfortable had air conditioning, and we had a sea view from our balcony.

However, we found that this didnt outweigh the good points of the hotel itself. Rooms are quite small, beds are a bit uncomfortable. The noise ofthe busy road outside and building work next door. There is a construction site next door and you have to be out of your room at 11am for it to be cleaned,. No tea-making facilities in the rooms. Bathroom tiny, sitting on thetoilet, one's feet were in the shower recess. The shower recess wasparticularly tiny, so that one had constantly to fight off unwelcomeadvances from the shower curtain, or inundate the entire bathroom. Thegap between the two single beds was uncomfortable, I like to snuggle upto my partner at night. Very small bathroom. The lift did not go to the ground floor so we had to carry our pushchair up 2 sets of stairs to get to the lift. Thew hotel is on a very busy road so was quite noisy. Breakfast was distinctly average. Needs a lot of updating a little shabby in places. Small, dated and pokey room. As stated above, no drinks facilities in the room.Parking place is “public”, so, you need a lot of luck to find a free place. Hotel is placed also more then 1 km away from city centre, so it is hard to walk to downtown every evening. Second, noise level due to nearest main road was high, and noise isolation of the building is very poor, and that was very annoying. Third, but not so important, furniture and “gear” are poor. The breakfast had no variety same every day the cornflakes were like rabbit food even a toaster with fresh bread would have been nice it didnt make you want to rush down to eat oue grandson only drank milk woulnt eat anything.overpriced not at all a 3 star hotel. Night staff were rude and left keys out without locking doors. no option for late check out.
