The Portree offers a warm welcome to its guests and, although a no-frills establishment, it is in a quiet city location, clean, comfortable and has a pleasant lounge with fresh milk in a client fridge for making tea and coffee: no messing with small plastic cartons of ghastly uht milk!. It was walkable from the bus station. The owners were friendly and offered good suggestions of places to go. The room was small but adequate...and the shower was good and warm. Breakfast could be ordered to exactly your tastes.
all reviews » I thought the owner/manager was very friendly and helpful and the quality of the accomodations for a guesthouse was first rate. I was not aware that there were kitchen facilities which was a bonus for me as I am a vegetarian. Excellent breakfast with tea and coffee available 24 hours. We booked a triple room which was basic but perfectly adequate for our 3 night stay. Situated just 10 minutes walk from the main shopping/nightlife area. The room was clean & cozy, and we added the breakfast which was great. It's close to the bus station, and the staff were very friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. I've stayed here before & would stay again,it's handy you have the train station & bus station near,the staff are so friendly & the hotel is run by lovely people. We really enjoyed our stay at the Portree Guest House. although we only stayed one night we would go back to waterford and stay at the Portree Guest House. The characterful nature of the old merchant house internally , really nice light and obviously cared for . Sense of being on holiday in an older period. We were looked after during our entire visit, nothing was too much trouble. Very good value for money and very helpful staff. We will revisit. only stayed one night, staff very friendly and helpful, tea coffee for free day or night. Nice place to stay. No frills place to stay, and there is on site parking and real milk for your hot drinks. Quiet area. Good for a stay of a night or two. The price was value for money you got what you payed for But it was still the best breakfast in Ireland. nothing really stands out. I like area. The owner was very polite, friendly, helpful and informative. Darius was a perfect host and always happy to assist us. The mattress was a bit old and you could feel the springs through it, could do with an upgrade or maybe a mattress cover would help. As we are young it didn't ruin our stay or anything. nothing. Cigarette smell in reception isn't great but we were very happy otherwise!. ...... The weather !!!! (joke ). The room was a bit cold, but I was too tired and just went to bed. nothing. Public spaces seemed run down. Heating was turned off early in the evening. The lingering cigarette smoke smell caused by smoking in the back under open windows. Nothing. Walls were thin enough to hear the TV next door, and like many B&Bs the shower water pressure is mediocre. But you get what you pay for. Unfortunately the bed in our room was very uncomfortable. nice to see cosmetics in bathroom shampoo ect. Rooms small. Walls paper thin, bathroom very tiny, I had trouble getting in the shower Suitable for Leprocauns. room cramped. unsecured wi-fi. 20 minute walk to center of town. 20 stairs up which to cart suitcases. The Chang rooms. The bathroom window lock in our room was broken and therefore would not allow us to open it. Tea & coffee making facilities were provided in the communal sitting room this is not convenient when you want a cup of tea in the middle of the night. Our bedroom was next door to a storeroom/office which had a incoming telephone in it, our first evening at Portree Guest House consisted of us listing to the constant ringing of the phone, no one seemed to be on duty to answer it.

Please note that there is no lift at this property. Upper floors can be accessed by stairs only. Acceptable forms of identification are passports, a driver's licence and a national identity card.
